Carol A Specht, RN, BSN, 67

November 28, 2017

Carol A Specht, RN, BSN, 67, of Millersville, passed away on November 28th due to respiratory failure related to Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. Born in Darby, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Alberta Halstead.

Carol was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend and was also a devoted spouse to her husband Paul, with whom she shared a home, life and enduring love for over 45 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Joseph (Jodi), Stephen (Abby Mearig) and Anne Gokey (Matthew); five grandchildren, Adam, Haylee, Sam, Madeleine and Sophia; four favorite brothers and two favorite sisters.

Carol was a graduate of Bryn Mawr Nursing School and spent her professional career caring and advocating for patients as an ICU, CCU and PCU nurse in Missouri, Michigan and Pennsylvania; as an instructor for an LPN program in Missouri; and as a school nurse volunteer in New Hampshire. Locally she worked many years at Community Hospital and the Heart Specialists. Carol was respected by physicians and colleagues for her extensive medical knowledge and diagnostic skills. She impacted countless lives.

However, family was always first and foremost to Carol. Whether it was a trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show with her sisters, or afternoons releasing home-grown monarch butterflies with her grandkids, she consistently invested her energies with her family. She lived her life with a positive attitude and an infectious smile.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet our family at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 441 North George Street, Millersville, PA, 17551 on Sunday, December 3, from 6-8PM; and again on Monday, December 4, from 9-9:45AM at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603, where a Memorial Mass will begin 10AM. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carol’s memory may be offered to St. Ignatius Nursing and Rehab Center in Philadelphia (www.stinrc.org), or to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church “Sacrificial Giving Fund” (www.stphilipmillersville.org).

Our sincere condolences and heartfelt prayers go out to Paul, Joe, Steve, and Anne and families.  What a great loss!  She will be missed!  She could always make us laugh and she caused everyone she knew to look on the bright side!
She was an inspiration. She never seemed to let her struggle with her health get her down.  She always had a positive attitude!
I remember when I first met her.  I told myself, I wanted to be just like her!

Love to all,
