C. Gary Umstead

C. “Gary” Umstead, of Lancaster, formerly of Philadelphia, passed on January 19, 2012. Gary was born on February 27th, 1933 in Reading, PA to the late Clifford and Pearl Umstead (nee Morrison). He was devoted to his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy A. Umstead (nee Peters) they did everything together. He is survived by his children; Denise M. Calhoun wife of Joseph of Lancaster, PA, Gary J. Umstead of Philadelphia, PA, Joanne C. Hubert wife of Robert, and Daniel Umstead husband of Erica. Gary was the loving grandfather of Eric, Steven, Scott, and Katie Calhoun, Anthony and Michael Hubert, and Madeline and Elena Umstead.

He served in the Army as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Alaska.

He formerly worked as a machinist at Whiting Patterson Company in Philadelphia.

He was an avid golfer and sports fan; he especially enjoyed the Philadelphia sports teams. Gary cared for and rode horses as a young man and also spent many years coaching youth sports in Philadelphia.

The family will be receiving visitors at St. John Neumann Catholic Church 601 Delp Rd. Lancaster, PA 17601 on Saturday January 21st at 12pm. A memorial Mass will follow at 1pm. Internment Private.
