Bobby Ruble, 79, of Washington Boro, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital, Wednesday, December 12, 2018, following a brief illness. Born in Dayton, OH, Bobby was the son of the late Harry T. and Mildred (Parnell). He was the loving husband of Shirley Ann (Gebhard) Ruble, with whom he would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on December 24.
A true patriot, Bobby proudly served in the US Navy for 30 years and attained the highest rank of an enlisted sailor as a Command Master Chief (BMCM). Bobby retired from active duty on December 1, 1986. In his retirement, he joined the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1008 and served one term as the Commander of the Navy Club of Lancaster, Ship #166. His story, as recorded in radio and TV interviews, has been recorded in the annals of the Library of Congress. Bobby also enjoyed spending time salt-water fishing in Key West, FL.
In addition to his wife, Bobby is survived by his three children: Jody L. Ruble-Eisenbise, of Elizabethtown; Bobby E. Ruble, husband of Staci, of Key West, FL; and Jennifer L. Mezick, wife of William, of Fairless Hills, PA; five grandchildren: Kelsea, Kolby, Bobby Jr., Lauryn, and Liam; and sisters: Bobbette Hemmingsen, wife of Cleve and Mary S. Cochran, wife of Gary. Bobby was preceded in death by his brother, Harry E. Ruble.

So sorry to have read of the passing of Shipmate Bobby Ruble. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Shirley and the family.
Bobby was the Command Master Chief at NAS Key West and pinned on my anchors at the 1980 CPO advancement ceremony.
Ironically, I was born and raised in Columbia, worked with Bobby and lived as neighbors on Spaulding Court for three years and never made a connection between Washington Boro and Columbia. It is indeed a small world.

I got to know Bobby when he worked security at RR Donnelley. He was the guy who started your day off right with a smile and friendly greeting when you came in each day. Always willing to help out, always with a smile on his face. A terrific person who made the world a little nicer. God bless you, Bobby. Thanks for being there for us.
