Betty E. Alleman, 88

Betty Evelyn Alleman, 88, died on July 3, 2017, at her home in Holtwood. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Henry R. and Blanche M. (Miller) Gertler. Betty was the wife of the late Abram Alleman, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage at the time of his passing in November 2002.
Betty was proud of the fact that she was part of the first graduating class of the Adult Enrichment Center when she received her GED in June of 1981. She worked for many years at Conestoga View Nursing Home, from where she retired as Head of Housekeeping. An avid gardener, she enjoyed growing plants and flowers. Betty also loved cooking and baking for family and friends.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Cheryll A. Alleman of Peach Bottom and Merleen K. Brown of Holtwood; her son, Jeffrey D. Alleman of Quarryville; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Carol L. Carvell, and her son, Paul W. Alleman, Sr.
A Memorial Service for Betty will be held at 11AM, Friday, July 21, 2017, at St. Paul’s Church, 1 W. Fourth St., Quarryville, PA 17566. A light luncheon will follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Betty’s memory be made to Hospice & Community Care, P O Box 4125, Lancaster, PA, 17604.
