Bessie I. Caldwell, 95

April 06, 2020

Bessie I. Caldwell, 95, of Columbia, passed away on April 6, 2020. Born in Highville, she was the daughter of the late Clarence S. and Georgianna (Butler) Tillman. She was the wife of the late Max L. Caldwell.

Those that knew Bessie, knew she loved Christmas time, especially making Christmas cookies. She often baked thousands of cookies to handout to friend and family. In her free time, she also enjoyed crocheting and knitting.

Bessie is survived by her step daughters and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by her husband, parents and siblings, Norman, Ira, Carl and Anna Mae, whom she was very close with.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at Creswell Cemetery in Conestoga.

Condolences to the Family

April 11, 2020

I met Bessie after I started volunteering at St Anne’s Home in the fall of 2016.  When I lost my mother, I had to put my grief into action.  Bessie was always happy to see me and she loved to tell me about her family.  She appreciated her step daughters and talked about her nieces and nephews and their pets.

She would always tear up when we talked about her husband and how she missed him.  She had a sharp memory and always asked about my son and husband.

She and I loved peppermint and we would enjoy eating Peppermint Patties together.  She also loved her roommate, Anna and they were both good for eachother.

I just want her family to know Bessie did more for me during our visits than I did for her. She was one sweet lady and visitng with her always lifted both our spirits.  I am sorry that I never got to meet any of you but Bessie really appreciated everything you did to help her.  My last two visits with her seem to confuse her more than help her.  She was a wonderful lady and I will miss her sweet spirit.  Thank you for letting me spend time with her.
