January 05, 2025
Bessie H. Ehlers, 89, of Willow Street, PA, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2024 at Willow Valley.
Born in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Fredric M. and Bessie H. (Fielding) Lavenburg. She was the loving wife of Walter Ehlers and they were married for 70 years.
Bess dedicated her life to her family, always putting others before herself with her kindhearted and selfless nature. She shared a deep bond with her two sisters, and her love for them was unwavering. Bess had a passion for the simple joys of life. She enjoyed quiet mornings reading the paper. Her remarkable memory allowed her to recall the smallest details, making her a true keeper of memories. She found peace and joy on Long Beach Island, where she loved spending time with family and friends. A place she has been visiting since she was a young girl. Bess also made wonderful friendships at Willow Valley.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Ehlers; her children, Nancy (Jerry) Olivo, Cynthia (Richard) Lynes, and Stephen (Heidi) Ehlers; her sisters, Doris Chinchar and Ruthie Chalfant; her grandchildren, Erica Bracken, Craig Olivo, Andrew Ehlers, Jill Doran, Scott Olivo, Kurt Ehlers, and Amy Karman; and her great-grandchildren, Finley Doran, Wesley Karman, Connor Olivo, Audrey Olivo, and Antonio Olivo.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Long Beach Island at a later date for family and close friends.

We have wonderful memories of spending time with Bess and Walter. Especially the luncheon with all of us on the deck in Harvey Cedars. Pictures in albums have become even more special now. Bess was a very special lady with a very special smile. With love, Elise, Frank, Walter and Karen

I wish I’d had more opportunities to be around Bess. I met her after my sister, Heidi, married Steve. Bess was always so good-natured, and very intelligent. When our mother was dying, she came to Barnesville to support our family. She was so warm and loving, cooking for us and behaving as if she were a mother to each of us! I rememember telling Bess that I thought Heidi was very fortunate to have such a fantastic mother-in-law! Our family is so sorry that Bess has died, and we extend our love and warmest condolences to everyone that knew and loved her. Bess and Walter created an amazing famiy, full of people that carry on her legacy of loving kindness. We are so sorry for your loss!
