Bernard “Bud” J. Oracewski, 91

Bernard “Bud” J. Oracewski, 91, passed away at Providence Place Senior Living, Lancaster, PA, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. He shared almost 53 years with his wife Dorothy A. (Gwiazdowski) Oracewski before her death in 2012.

Born in Nanticoke, Luzerne County, PA, Bud was raised by his maternal grandmother Mary (Studna) Lawrence and his great uncle Joseph Studna. He graduated from George Westinghouse High School in Brooklyn, NY.
Bud was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War and served in Korea with the 1844 Artillery Battery 92D Field Artillery Battalion. Bud achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant and earned a Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal, & National Defense Service Metal. Following his honorable discharge Bud worked for New York Telephone for 32 years, first as a splicer and then 18 years as a foreman.

During his working years Bud lived in N. Massapequa, NY, and then in retirement he lived in Myerstown and several other locations in Lancaster County.

Bud was of the Catholic Faith. He loved sports, especially baseball. He rooted for the NY Mets, Jets, and Islanders. Bud also enjoyed completing word searches and listening to 40’s & 50’s music.

Most dear to Bud was his family, especially the time spent with his grandchildren.

Bud is survived by his daughters, Linda Oracewski-Scotto, wife of Stephen of Lancaster, PA, and Theresa Oracewski, wife of James Hoerauf of N. Massapequa, NY, his son Michael Oracewski, husband of Lisa of Bay Shore, NY; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Adriana and her husband Brandon, Emilie and her husband Diego, Moraina, Annaleigha and her husband Andrew, Brandon, and Halene.

A viewing will take place 9 to 11 am, followed by the funeral at 11 am with The Rev. Mark J. Thiboldeaux, Sr. officiating, on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. Interment with military honors will be Wednesday 2 pm at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
