Benito Matias Vega, 70

Benito Matias Vega, 70, of Lancaster died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, in Brandywine Hospital, Coatesville. Born October 8, 1947 in Añasco, Puerto Rico to Zolano Matias and Consuelo Vega, he was a retired laborer from Buck Iron in Quarryville. A longtime resident of Lancaster, he enjoyed Green Dragon on Friday nights and spending Sundays in Maryland searching for good crabs and shrimp. His favorite activity was spending time with his friends and family in his backyard where he enjoyed listening to live music, reminiscing about fond memories of the good old days, and roasting a pig, while enjoying a nice cold Budweiser. He married Darlene Marie Boyer in 1970. She preceded him in death on January 1, 1998. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law; Jorge Matias and Margarita Rivera of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; two daughters and son-in-laws, Tammy and Zane Spencer of Lititz, and Lori and Pedro Gonzalez of Lancaster. Four sisters; Gladys Matias, Sonia Matias, Annie Matias, and Monserrate “Monsa” Matias all of Añasco, Puerto Rico. Three brothers; Pablo Matias, José Luis “Néstor” Matias, and Angel “Güicho” Matias all of Añasco, Puerto Rico. He is preceded in death by one brother, Andrés Matias. Four grandsons; Anthony P. Gonzalez, Robert B. Vega, Xavier Spencer, and Logan Spencer. Three granddaughters; Amber Spencer, Aaliyah N. Gonzalez, and Mya V. Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, wife, and brother.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St. Lancaster. A viewing will be held from 1-2PM with the funeral service at 2PM. Interment to follow at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.

Benito Matias Vega, 70, Lancaster murió el miércoles 16 de mayo de 2018 en el Hospital Brandywine en Coatesville. Nacido el 8 de octubre de 1947 en Añasco, Puerto Rico, hijo de Zolano Matias y Consuelo Vega, era un trabajador jubilado de Buck Iron en Quarryville. Un antiguo residente de Lancaster, disfrutó Green Dragon los viernes por la noche. Pasar los domingos en Maryland en busca de buenos cangrejos y camarones. Su actividad favorita era pasar tiempo con sus amigos y familiares en su patio trasero, donde disfrutaba escuchando música en vivo, recordando los buenos recuerdos de los viejos tiempos y asando un cerdo, mientras disfrutaba de un delicioso Budweiser frío. Tres hermanos; Pablo Matías, José Luis “Néstor” Matias, y Angel “Güicho” Matias todos de Añasco, Puerto Rico. Le precedió en la muerte un hermano, Andrés Matias. Cuatro nietos; Anthony P. Gonzalez, Robert B. Vega, Xavier Spencer y Logan Spencer. Tres nietas; Amber Spencer, Aaliyah N. Gonzalez y Mya V. Smith. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, dos hijos, esposa y hermano.
