Beatrice Becker, 90
December 22, 2023
Beatrice Becker, age 90 years, of Lititz, PA, passed away peacefully at Hospice and Community Care of Mount Joy, PA on December 22, 2023.
Bea was born in Webster, MA on June 22, 1933, daughter of the late Katherine Fitzgerald Young and Alfred J. Young. Bea was the wife of Charles A. Becker, who died March 19, 2016. They were married for 63 years.
Bea was a graduate of Delone Catholic High School and a member of St Joseph Catholic Church (Hanover) and St. John Neumann Catholic Church (Lancaster). In addition to raising three daughters, Bea was a successful career woman. For 47 years she navigated several careers, beginning with the Lana Lobell Mail Order Catalogue Company in Hanover, PA. After a move to New England she worked for Bloomingdales for several years and later got her realtor’s license and enjoyed selling properties on the Connecticut coastline. After a final move to Lancaster, PA, she pursued a 15 year career in retail sales at Talbot’s where she earned multiple accolades and awards for her performance and dedication. She loved helping people and made lifelong friends wherever she worked.
To counter the long days of employment, Bea found time to read at least a book a week. She was a voracious reader, loving everything from romance novels to historical fiction and nonfiction. Books were always her most coveted and treasured gifts at Christmastime.
Bea put her books aside to cheer on her favorite sports teams. A full-fledged sports fanatic, she loved watching her grandsons play football, as well as the Philadelphia Phillies, The Philadelphia Eagles, and especially the Kansas City Chiefs. Those teams were her greatest pleasure and her worst frustration.
Her knowledge of sports, current events, politics, and literature always kept the conversation entertaining and lively, especially with her grandsons.
Bea is survived by: a sister, Catherine Clarton of Hanover; three daughters: Sheila Jones (Terry) of Lancaster, PA, Cheryl Baker (Robert) of Naples, FL, and Lori Simon (Robert) of Cheshire, CT.; five grandsons: Alexander Ehrhart (Tierney) of Southport, CT, Austin Ehrhart (Frances) of Wellesley, MA, Kevin Simon (Kathleen) of West Hartford, CT, David Simon of Philadelphia, and Benjamin Baker (Christian Edvardsen) of San Francisco; 5 great grandchildren: Ava Ehrhart, Turner Ehrhart, Owen Ehrhart, Adam Ehrhart, and Christian Simon.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family at a future date.
Memorial contributions in Bea’s name may be made to Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster.

Sheila, Cheri and Lori, I am so very sorry for all of your families. Your mother loved her family and talking about you and her wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her goal was to stay alive to see her two great grandchildren who were to be born in December and January. I will miss her so very much! Both she and your father were the best neighbors. We would laugh in the backyard when my dog, Buddy Lee, tried to jump our fence to see her. She would always come over to talk and pet him. We both loved Hallmark movies and The Golden Girls. She would watch them late at night in bed and I would laugh thinking that I was right next door doing the same thing!
Sheila, it has been a very challenging year for us both. Your mom really appreciated everything that both you and Terry did for her.
I hope your dad was right there waiting for her. Again, I am so sorry, but glad that she is no longer in pain. I’ll still look like the nut that I am, talking to Seth and her from the backyard! Love to all of you.
