Barbara (Thomas) Campbell, 84

April 06, 2022

Barbara “Barb” (Thomas) Campbell passed away, April 6, 2022, from lymphoma, at the age of 84, in Lancaster. Born in Philadelphia, Barb graduated from Germantown High School in 1956 and was known for her ability to meet every occasion with a song. Barb was the life of any party—her joy in making those around her laugh was well-known to all.

She spent nearly two decades as a district manager for Waldenbooks, the perfect role for such a voracious reader and creative mind. However, Barbara always said that being a mother to her two children was her favorite job.

She loved music, and spent the first paycheck she ever earned to place a record player on layaway. She enjoyed a personal study of art and history throughout her life, and was known for writing Letters to the Editor in the local newspaper.

She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin; her mother, Ethel; and her sister, Marian. She is survived by her brother, Benjamin, Jr., and his wife, Carol; her daughter, Marian and her husband, Mark; her son, Roger and his wife, Denise; and her four grandchildren, Jordan, Madison, Tyler, and Kelli.

Services for Barbara will be private.

Condolences to the Family

Marian & Roger- I was so sad to hear of your mother’s passing.  She was my District Manager when I worked for Waldenbooks in the 80/90s.  I can still see her flying in the door in her high heels carrying her heavy notebook.  She was fun to be around, was a hard worker and very good at her job.  She came to my wedding and her son Roger w3as our DJ.  She shared many stories over the years about her children and grandkids who meant the world to her.  You will be missed my friend.
Fondly, Karen Tobias

My condolences to your family. I met Barb at her Primary Care Physicians Office, where I work. She was a hoot! I liked her right away. Very funny, theatrical, we talked Politics and many other topics. She would always greet me by name or ask for me if I was not at the front desk when she would arrive.  I will miss her smile and conversation. She was a delight. I will miss seeing her.  I pray she is in a better place and out of pain.  Fondly, Kathy Shofkom

Barb was our neighbor in Hamilton Park and she was always interesting to talk to and had a great sense of humor. Our condolences to the family.

Barbara will be missed by everyone here at LongCrest and by me especially. We shared a love of classical music and the art of the Wyeth family of Cadsford. You have my deepest sympathy on Barbara’s passing. Ginny Tacey.
