Arlene H. Swarr

Arlene H. Swarr (97) passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, at Brethren Village. Born in Lancaster on October 16, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Lottie (Zittle) Hughes and was lovingly raised by her late foster mother Mabel E. Rohrer.

A 1946 East Lampeter High School graduate, Arlene raised a family while waitressing at Dutch Haven and Joe Myers and worked as a telephone operator at Bell Telephone/ATT for 25 years. Raised in the Christian faith, she was a member of the Hempfield Church of the Brethren.

In her later years, Arlene enjoyed being busy with bowling, dancing, traveling and any sort of get-together. She was always ready for an entertaining show and a bus trip adventure.

Arlene dealt with life’s twists and turns with a smile and in the company of family and many good friends.

Arlene is survived by her daughters, Cynthia S. Cope (Pete), Cheryl L. Mitchell, and Beverly S. Fisher. Also surviving are six beloved grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters, one brother, and her former husband, W. Richard Swarr.

Services will be private and at the convenience of her family.
