Ann F. (Fries) Goodworth, 71
September 13, 2025
Ann F. (Fries) Goodworth, 71, of Mountville, PA, passed away on September 13th surrounded by family. Ann is now resting comfortably in the arms of our Lord.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Marcella (Walsh) and Thomas George Fries, Sr. She was the beloved wife of Gibby Goodworth, with whom she celebrated 51 years of marriage. High school sweethearts, Ann and Gibby built a life centered around faith, family, and love.
A member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Ann gave her time and talents in devotion to her children, supporting them in all of their passions, even serving as a coach for youth sports like basketball and cheer. Ann carried with her the competitive spirit she discovered in her youth while playing sports, often sharing stories with her kids and grandkids about her time as a basketball player—where she once scored the only point during an all-star game. It was a moment she often used to teach a “never give up” attitude.
Prior to retirement, she worked at Lancaster Catholic High School, where she was affectionately referred to by her students as ‘Mrs. G”. Just as she did with her own children, she offered her students the same unwavering support and heartfelt devotion.
Ann enjoyed quality time with her family, creating nostalgic moments on summer vacations at the Jersey Shore with her brothers and sisters in her youth, as well as making special memories with her husband, kids, and grandkids at the Outer Banks more recently. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, where many of the holiday celebrations and traditions were accented by her exceptional cooking. Her best dishes have been successfully handed down to her children—most favorably,
Grandma’s fried chicken and mashed potatoes, which will continue to be served at future celebrations for generations to come.
Ann’s legacy lives on in her husband, Gilbert; her children, Kristen G. Hoffman, wife of James of FL, Gilbert C. Goodworth, Jr., husband of Jose Hernandez of CA, and Brandon Goodworth, husband of Jennifer of Waynesboro; and her beloved grandchildren, Emma, James Jr., Lily, Dominic, Avery, and Lauren. She is also survived by her siblings, Thomas Fries, husband of Karen of Pittsburgh, William Fries, husband of Irene of MO, Terry Fries, husband of Lynn of Pittsburgh, Marcy Fries, wife of Larry of VA, and Julie Fries of NC, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Katherine Kanai.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to [Hospice and Community Care of Mt Joy.

Gibby and family, I saw the news of Ann’s untimely passing online this morning. I am so sorry for your loss. You have a great family which both you and Ann can be proud of. Although I’m sure all of you are hurting now, I know that your strong faith will guide you through this tough time. Unfortunately, I am out of the country until later this month so I will not be able to attend Ann’s service, but I will pray for all of you. May God bless Ann and all of you.

Sincere condolences to the whole family. The 37 years of our close friendship have created many good memories and sometimes challenging ones. Ann was a dear friend. I will forever cherish our talks and times of laughter . When my wife passed away she along with her husband Gib took me under their wings . Ann kindly made daily supper for me for over a year. I am deeply saddened by the loss of one of my closest friends and confidants.
