Amil “Skip” M. Ihry, 86
Amil ‘Skip’ M. Ihry, 86, formerly of 649 Hershey Avenue and Country Meadows, died Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at St. Anne’s Nursing Retirement Home.
Born in Royal, Iowa October 18, 1920, he was son to the late Jean Baptist and Nell Huss Ihry. He was married fifty-five years to the late Harriet N. Kauffman Ihry.
He served in the US Navy for 20 years. During his tenure, he served in both WWII, on the USS Pelias during the Pearl Harbor attack, and during the Korean War he received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal earning several Battle Stars, and traveled the globe twice. He retired as a Chief in 1960, and went on to work in the RCA Security Department, Lancaster, PA until his retirement in 1983.
Skip was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as an usher and participated in various church events. He was a member of St. Philips Guys and Dolls, National AARP, St. Anne-Neumann Seniors, served as Judge of Elections, and volunteered at the Lancaster Blind Association. He was an avid supporter of Lancaster Catholic High School sporting events and enjoyed time spent traveling and with his family.
Surviving is his daughter; Annette M, married to Ronald L McKinney of Lancaster; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and sister, Cleo married to Thomas Garrod of Spencer, Iowa. He was preceded in death by daughter; Maureen K. Ihry; sister; Mildred Kitchen and brothers, John E. Ihry and Merle A. Ihry.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. A viewing will be held at the church from 9:30 AM until time of service. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
