Alyce M. (McNamee) Carrigan, 95

January 29, 2016

Alyce M. (McNamee) Carrigan, 95, of Lancaster, died Friday, January 29, 2016 at Hamilton Arms.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the wife of the late Daniel Anthony Carrigan, who died in 1980. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Agnes (Henry) McNamee.
Alyce was a faithful and active member of St. James Catholic Church, Lititz, for over 50 years. She attended mass every day and Novena every Wednesday night until her illness made it difficult for her to do so. She was a member of Legion of Mary and the Silver Liners at St. James.
Alyce was a very giving person with a great sense of humor, and she cherished her family and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Mary Elise “Lisa” Carrigan of Lititz; Marguerite Carrigan McHenry and her husband Victor of Alexandria, VA; and Daniel Joseph Carrigan and his wife Althea of Columbia; and 7 grandchildren, Allison and William Bader, both of New York City, and Meghan Bader of Arlington, VA. She was the last surviving member of her family, all of her siblings being from the Philadelphia area.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave., Lititz, with the Rev. James O’Blaney, C.Ss.R as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Machpelah Cemetery, Lititz. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Charles F. Snyder, Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, and again one hour prior to the mass at St. James on Wednesday.

To Lisa and Family,
We want to extend our deepest sympathy to you with the passing of Alyce (your mother, grandmother, dear friend and person). Expecially to Lisa who took such great care of her Mother for so many years with NEVER complaining and always with love and compassion. I know this wil be a very difficult time for you but to know she is in heaven with your father, I hope that is some comfort. Even though she was 95, life is still short here on earth and we know she will be truly missed by so many people. May you find peace and comfort with the love and support of your family and friends.   Christine (Campbell) and Ronald Garber

Meg, Lisa & Dan,
I want to extend my condolences to you all.
My initial emotion as I came upon your Mother’s obituary was saddness. That changed as I reflected on my interactions with her years ago. She always was so gracious to me. I also believe strongly that our purpose in this life is to make this world a better place and prepare for our eternity with our Lord. Your Mother certainly did both. I am encouraged, as I hope you are, that she is in Heaven now. May you be comforted by that reality along with your memories of wonderful times and experiences together.
always,
John Boyer LCHS ’73

I will never forget the story I overheard my father telling my mother about Aunt Alyce, many years ago. He was unaware that I was within ear shot. Uncle Dan went to work one day and when he got home, Aunt Alyce had repainted the entire living room. By herself. With no help from anyone, three children underfoot and no consultation with Uncle Dan on color, either. My Dad asked Uncle Dan why she would do that, on such a whim, and Uncle Dan was laughing as he replied – “Why not? She said she likes color. Afterall, this is Alyce we are talking about.”  I am teary and smiling at the same time as I write this story. That was how I remember her, devoted Wife & Mother, grandmother, strong Sister of the McNamee family, always with a sense of fun. I know she is painting her spot in Heaven right now. She will be truly missed and always remembered.
