Alice Ruby Work Brubaker, 94

Alice Ruby Work Brubaker, 94, of Lancaster, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Calvary Fellowship Homes, Lancaster. Born on December 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William and Mildred (Heiney) Creamer Good.
Alice Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, John Cecil Work and in 2014 by J. Herbert Brubaker, her husband of 9 years. Alice Ruby had two daughters, Wilmajean Work, married to Kenneth E. Leister of Lancaster and Joyce Work, married to Brian Lady of Abilene, Kansas; two step-daughters, Rachael B., married to H. Glenn Esbenshade of Lititz and Cathy L. married to Jeffrey S. Keener of Mr. Joy. Alice Ruby additionally had 2 grandchildren Joshua Lady and David Lady; 5 great grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren and 17 step-great grandchildren. Special recognition is given to her extended family, Charley Talbert and the late Dr. Madonna Talbert of Ephrata.
Alice Ruby was a member of Lancaster Church of the Nazarene. She graduated from Penn Manor High School, Millersville State Teacher’s College (Millersville University) where she received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1944. She also earned an elementary reading specialist certification. She taught for 38 ½ years, 6 years in Conestoga Valley and 32 ½ years in the Penn Manor School District. She was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) and a lifetime member of the Lancaster County School Retirees (LCSR).
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends in Lancaster and Abilene, Kansas. Her hobbies included making many beautiful counted cross stitch pieces and crocheting. She was an avid reader who enjoyed reading her Bible as well as historical and Amish novels. Highlights of ther travels included exploring all 50 states, Canada, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
Friends and Family will be received from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Calvary Fellowship Homes (Assembly Room), 502 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Lancaster Church of the Nazarene, 2150 New Holland Pike, Lancaster with Pastor Mark Justice and Pastor Kevin Brown officiating. Friends and Family will be received on Thursday from 10am to 11am prior to the service. Private interment will be in Clearfield United Methodist Church, 1238 Rawlinsville Road, New Providence, PA.
