During their long retirement, Alan and Pat traveled the world, visiting city and countryside. Al was an avid skier and cyclist, and often traveled with a group of friends from high school. He enjoyed packing his bags and his bike, even to the Netherlands, twice. In between, they were warm parents, in-laws and grandparents to their family. Pat and Al celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary September 6, 2017.
Surviving are his wife Patricia, his children Rebecca Louise Royer Michaelson (Peter), Alan Todd Royer (Lorette) and Mark Brackenridge Royer (Marla), grandchildren Sebastian, Grace, Destin and Rachael Royer, Zachary and Avery Michaelson, two great-grandchildren Trent and Sydney Michaelson, and his two sisters, Margaret Royer Billman (John) and Anna Royer.
