Alan Fleck “Al” Royer, 93

Alan Fleck Royer, “Al”, of Elizabethtown PA passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2018. Al was born in Altoona PA on November 18, 1924 to the late John F. Royer and Grace Lucas Royer.
Al held the 2nd chair, violin, with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra while still at John Harris High School in Harrisburg. After his service in WWII, he married Patricia Ann Thomas and attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music. He graduated from Syracuse University (Mathematics) and became an actuary in PA, IL, NY and NJ. He was an Associate Fellow of the Casualty Actuary Society, and he retired as the Casualty Actuary for the State of New Jersey in 1987.
Al served proudly in the U. S. Army during World War II, with the 32nd Battalion in the Philippines and commanded American Legion Post 46 in New Cumberland after the war.
During their long retirement, Alan and Pat traveled the world, visiting city and countryside. Al was an avid skier and cyclist, and often traveled with a group of friends from high school. He enjoyed packing his bags and his bike, even to the Netherlands, twice. In between, they were warm parents, in-laws and grandparents to their family. Pat and Al celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary September 6, 2017.
Surviving are his wife Patricia, his children Rebecca Louise Royer Michaelson (Peter), Alan Todd Royer (Lorette) and Mark Brackenridge Royer (Marla), grandchildren Sebastian, Grace, Destin and Rachael Royer, Zachary and Avery Michaelson, two great-grandchildren Trent and Sydney Michaelson, and his two sisters, Margaret Royer Billman (John) and Anna Royer. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Gregg and Jim.
Private services were held May 30, 2018 at Snyder Funeral Home, Lititz. PA.
