Agnes Louise Frey, 95

Agnes Louise Frey, age 95, a resident of Willow Valley Communities, Willow Street, PA, died on August 3, 2017. A native of Norristown, PA., she was the daughter of the late Chester and Margaretta (Barnes) Frey.
Agnes received her BS degree from Immaculata College and her Master’s in Library Science from Drexel University. For the majority of her career, Agnes worked as a Chief Librarian for the United States Army in Berlin, Germany and later at the Army War College, Carlisle, PA where she was responsible for library operations. She received numerous awards and commendations for Excellence and Service from the Army. She retired in 1981 after 30 years in government service.
Later in her career Agnes held librarian positions in Chester County, PA, Wilmington, DE, and Lancaster, PA where she ultimately volunteered on a regular basis. She was a member of the Lancaster County Historical Society and Lancaster County Public Library. With her passion and interest in others to have access to books, she ensured that Willow Valley Communities received regular visits from the Lancaster Library Service’s Bookmobile.
Agnes was able to travel internationally through work and trips. She enjoyed reading, playing Bridge, needle work and genealogy which she devoted many hours archiving the Frey Family Tree. Agnes recorded every new birth with pictures and records.
She is survived by sister, Retta Scott (nee Frey) of Williamsburg, VA, predeceased by her sisters Eleanor Brennan (nee Frey) and Catherine Keane ( nee Frey), brother Chester Frey and step-sister Mary F. Bright. Agnes is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her dear friend Susannah Benson.
A visitation will take place from 9 to 10 AM, followed by the Mass at 10 AM, at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 714 DeKalb Street, Norristown, PA 19401 on Friday, September 8, 2017. Interment in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Norristown, PA. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Library System of Lancaster County.
