A. Ruth Jerchau, 98

September 12, 2024

Ada Ruth Musser Jerchau went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 12, 2024.

Ruth was born in Leola on March 4th, 1926 to Martin and Ada Musser. She is the last of 11 in her family: Ira, Esther, Eva, Anna, Mary, Emma, John, Ben, Lloyd, and Norma.

She is survived by two sons, Dale (Sheryn) Jerchau, Daniel (Fannie) Jerchau, both of Lancaster and two daughters, Karin (Tim) White of Lancaster and Kathe (Dean) Bricker of Dayton Ohio. She has 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Ruth graduated from Upper Leacock High School 1944. She graduated from Lancaster School of the Bible where she met her husband of 50 years, Edward Jerchau.
They married and began their life’s ministry at Christ’s Home for children where they served for almost 37 years.

Ruth was a fun and adventurous person who loved the outdoors. She swam in the pool, played on the playground, sledded down the hill, and walked to feed the neighbor’s horses. She created untold numbers of picnics for the roughly 360 children they cared for as houseparents over their years at Christ’s Home. Ruth will be remembered for playing the piano by ear and singing her heart out, surrounded by children. Every child got their turn in the rocking chair on Ruth’s lap with the deep assurance that they were loved.
Ruth was the last surviving charter member of Grace Baptist Church where she served in various ministry roles over the course of her lifetime.

Ruth loved life, people and serving the Lord. As her body aged, she grew in her prayer ministry for others. Ruth is survived by many nieces and nephews who visited and loved her.

There is a memorial service planned for September 21st at Grace Baptist Church, 1899 Marietta Avenue Lancaster. Visitation is from 9:30am until time of service at 11:00am.

Condolences to the Family

We are so sad to hear of Ruth’s passing. The Joy it must of been for her to see her Savior face to face!  She loved her family and spoke of all of you with such love.  We are so sorry to have missed the service in her honor.  It is hard to put into words the impact she had on our family. Ruth loved children and her interaction with our children when they were young was such an encouragement!  She was always willing to interact with our family by coming to our widow’s luncheons, play with my toddlers so I could homeschool the older ones, play with my littles for an hour or two so I could have clear thinking in a grocery store, host us for a meal, pray with me over the phone, help us walk through deep grief, and always encouraged us with her words of God’s Goodness and Faithfulness. Our sincere condolences to the Jershau, White, and Bricker families.  Ruth’s memory lives on in the lives of so many that she touched.

Becky and I were so sorry to hear of Aunt Ruth’s passing and to be out of town for her service.  Our parents, Jim and Betty Smith, were blessed to serve with the Jerchaus at Paradise, as did Becky.  We all have fond memories of our relationship with her and Christ’s Home.  When we became neighbors we were warmly welcomed to bring our children and use the pool and the playground.  Our sincere sympathy to all the family, Becky Smith and Karen Smith Homsher

Blessings to the family as we mourn the loss of such a great human being – Ruth Jerchau.  I am the younger sister of Laurel Brant Kish, and I also remember visiting Christ’s Home in Paradise as a toddler.  Ruth was also very close with both our aunts – Marion and Dorothy Brant and therefore Ruth has been present for our entire lives.  It is hard to believe this time has come, as it seemed she would always be with us.  Ruth exemplied a life well lived, full of love and a spirit of giving.  May she be reveling in her presence with the almighty Lord.   Nancy Brant

Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend the service.  My contact with this dear lady was through her son, Dale.  It’s been my experience that you can tell a lot about a person by how they raised their children.  Dale is a fine, upstanding man, and I attribute this to his upbringing.  She will leave a legacy in this world that is positive. My wife and I visited with Aunt Ruth this past August at her house. She was her same “aunt Ruth” self in that she radiated the Lord’s humble loving servant presence, though had aged. My brother Buddy and sister Dee Dee were amongst the 360 mentioned in her obituary. I was one of her kids at the age of 2 and lived with her and uncle Ed several years in the early 1970’s. I remember her very well. She potty trained me. I was very broken hearted when I moved up to the “big house” and could no longer be with her. I can say that everything written in this thread about her is accurate, though she would point us all back to the Lord in saying these things. The Lord used many people to form me, however, aunt Ruth was most pivotal, in the virtues of the Lord others have mentioned. Eventually I got saved and years later served as a missionary for many years in Africa, and now serve as a pastor. She showed me the Lord’s tendernercies and His righteousness in the way she lived and spoke. I was incredibly blessed for the Lord to have put her in my life in my most formative years  She was a true giant of the faith. In her life we can learn many things. In her loss, we must not “tremble for the Ark”. The Lord is faithful and will raise up many others, many also that have been indelibly effected by her life. May the Lord grant the Jerchau family and many others comfort, and peace through His presence in this time.  She truly is with her blessed Savior, uncle Ed and a host of others in that great cloud of witnesses. Written with all my admiration, love and tears. Leslie  Paradise- 1973-1978

Dearest Kathe, Dale, Dan, Entire Family, Everyone She’s prayed for a ministered.
This morning, after crying, weeping, of Ruth’s leaving here, the words Legacy and Salt came to mind. Ruth had true wealth beyond measure! We won’t know the millions of lives in Heaven, because of her faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth.See how many children, grandchildren, great grandchildren she has, including the children, adult children the Lord sent into her life. The Holy Spirit of God filled her completely. I saw the Holy Fire of God, with expounding love through her eyes, the day I was blessed to meet Ruth, through her blessed, holy, loving, compassionate, generous, sympathetic, thoughtful, prayer warrior, lover, studier, teacher, mentor of God’s Word, daughter, Kathe-My dear life-long, sister in Jesus, prayer partner, best friend.
I think of Ruth,Through the Lord Jesus Christ, she’s given us an everlasting legacy, we have the blessing, honor, privilege, responsibility to minister, bless however the Holy Spirit leads to carry the torch, passed unto to us. Ruth fought the good fight, she finished the race. She’s receiving all the crowns, jewels, her rewards from the author and finisher of our faith, and her prayers for us have been, are being, shall be answered. We are left here, the days of Jesus’ return is near, Oh Lord, make us faithful unto You, help us run and not grow weary, fainthearted, give us your wisdom, make us righteous men and women of God for your glory, honor and praise.
You gave us the gift of Ruth in our lives! Give us pure hearts in all we do and say, may you be pleased. May the legacy Ruth left to each and everyone of us continue, until the last gentile is saved, and may our words have just the right amount of salt, to bring you glory.
Salt- Preserves, Lord please protect and bless our time with You in prayer, we talking to You, and You talking to us, please strengthen us through your Word daily. Make us mature and complete lacking nothing. Lord Jesus protect our tongues, so our words shall be salted, to bless each and every person of  whom we come in contact, may they see, believe, there is a Holy God, who loves them just where they are, may they get saved if they aren’t, and get closer to You, Lord Jesus. We who have been blessed knowing Ruth, is divinely orchestrated, and I know Ruth is in the thrown room of God Almighty, singing praises to the KING of Kings and LORD of Lords, praying for us, with the Lord Jesus! Abba Father, rebuke, satan the  the enemy of our souls, make all his plots and plans fail. Lord Jesus give us Your, almighty protection, and every spiritual blessings of the One and Only Almighty God, Jesus, Messiah, the soon coming King! Lord Jesus, as Ruth walked, lived, prayed in faith daily, blessed others by Your leading, may we do as well, in and by the Holy Spirit of God who dwells richly in us. Ruth is the most holy person I have met, she’s prayed for all of us.The Lord bless Lou, Ruth. I love you, thank you for your prayers, loving kindness, blessing of knowing you. Your legacy lives on in my heart forever!
Love,
Liz

To have known and loved Ruth Jerchau was to have touched the glory of God. Truly one of his trophies, Ruthie taught everyone around her what the embodiment of the Lord looked like. I will miss her life on this earth, but usher her on into the arms of Jesus, for I know I have known a true trophy of the Lord. I’ll miss her.

To the entire Jerchau Family,
It is bittersweet and with great sadness as I read of Ruth’s passing.  She was my all-time favorite resident  those years when she lived at Valleybrook Estates.  Such a warm, giving and genuine person…we have lossed a great woman.  But I know, without a doubt, that she is at the side of her Lord Jesus Christ.
To her family, though you are grieving now, may you feel her love and warmth wherever you go.  She will always be with you!
Most Sincerely,
Ann Oswald, (Reitred) Office Manager for Valleybrook Estates

I met Ruth and Ed more than 50 years ago as I was a child of two Christ’s Home alumni.  My parents Bob and Marion Brant considered them Christ’s Home family and held them in the highest regard as friends. We visited their Paradise home on many occasions throughout my childhood. They were always so welcoming and fun to visit. I envision a reunion of the four of them on a great picnic in Heaven and that makes me smile. RIP Ruth.

Sweet Ruth’s heart for Jesus as well as love for family and others was clearly evident even in the brief times that I interacted with her. What a lovely saint! Just knowing her Dàyton family, we have witnessed her eternal legacy of descendants who love the Lord. We will continue to pray for her family! Kathy Godwin
