Karen Florence Flick, 83

December 24, 2024

Karen Florence Flick, 83, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, surrounded by her immediate family, following an extended illness that she battled valiantly. She was in her 60th year of marriage to her beloved husband Ronald J. Flick.

In addition to Ronald, she is survived by her two sons, Brett A. Stabley of Lancaster, and Timothy J. Flick, husband of Ellen K. Flick, both of Lancaster and Bradenton Beach, FL. She is also survived by her adored grandson Andrew K. Flick (husband of Christine) of Miami Beach, FL. She is also survived by a sister, Judith A. O’Neal, wife of Bradford, and Sister and Brother-in-laws Edward and Sally Flick, and Harry and Eileen Flick, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Robert G. Kranch, and the late Florence Albright.

She was a member of Job’s Daughters as a young woman, and a proud graduate of Lancaster McCaskey High School, Class of 1959, and a member of the McCaskey alumni association, recently volunteering on her 65th reunion committee, capping a run where she served on every reunion committee since graduation.

Karen had numerous jobs over the years in both Lancaster and Delaware, with significant stints at Lancaster Storage Co. and Lancaster Malleable, where she retired as a personnel assistant. She was a long-term member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lancaster.

Karen was loved by many, with an infectious smile and a grace that touched everyone she met. She had many interests including painting and drawing, including oils, watercolors, and furniture painting, her favorite project being a beautiful Winnie the Pooh mural in her grandson’s nursery. She was a past member of Rehoboth Art League and Lancaster Art Association and contributed to the Lancaster County Coloring Book.

Karen enjoyed traveling with family and close friends (all over North America and Europe, and yes, even riding a camel in Morocco), Penn State football, picking crabs, racing to her beach house in Lewes, DE, and, for sure, the occasional glass of red wine.
She enjoyed socializing, dancing, joke telling, and entertaining. Ironically, she passed on December 24, a day she spent cooking for family and friends when she hosted epic Christmas Eve parties for nearly 50 years.

The family wants to thank the Healing Journey Foundation at The Lancaster Cancer Center, the 8 Lime Oncology floor at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, and Hospice & Community Care for their excellent care of Karen through her journey.

A Celebration of Life for Karen will be held at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 10AM, with a private interment, and wake to follow. Family and friends will be received from 9-10AM at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Please let her kind and loving spirit, and smile, live on in all of us.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of her kindness, care, and love can be made to the Healing Journey Foundation – Lancaster Cancer Center, or Hospice & Community Care of Lancaster.

Ron and Family:
Your video tribute shows lots of family and friends who loved Karen and had good times together.  Karen was  always a joy to work with at Lancaster Malleable and a highly respected member of our organization.  She always seemed to light up the room as she lights up your pics with her contagious smile.  Obviously she had much happiness.   You and Karen made a great couple.  I recall our last conversation, Ron, at an LMC Dinner.  Nancy and I send our sincere regrets for your loss.

I’m so sad for you, Ron, and your family.  Just remember all the great years you had together. We started kindergarten together and developed the nicknames of “string bean” and “lime bean”.  When we were about 12, we started to make clothes for a grown-up doll, Karen designing and me sewing. We dreamed of having a business after high school. Such a sweet and loving friend with a beautiful smile.  So glad she made it to our reunion in September even though she was in pain. I can only think of many wonderful words to describe  her….caring, loving, sharing, talented, and many more.

Was sorry to hear of Karen’s passing. She was a high school classmate who was a good friend. We spent many times just talking. Could always depend on her for good advice when needed. I know she is in the hands of Jesus.

My thoughts and deepest sympathy are with Karen’s family. She had such a beautiful soul and a million dollar smile which was infectious. I always enjoyed running into her and Ron while they were out listening to live music; she really had a life well lived and was loved and will be missed by many.
