Walter H. Zimmerman, 89

Walter H. Zimmerman, 89, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on September 13, 2018 surrounded by his family. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Ira S. Zimmerman and Emma (Allison) Zimmerman. Walter was the loving husband to the late Rosemarie (Souders) Zimmerman.
Walter was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School and Thaddeus Steven’s Trade School. A veteran of the US Air Force, he served during the Korean Conflict. After the military, he was a machinist that worked on jets at Omsted Air Force Base, Middletown, PA. Walter worked in the defense contract administrative services for the Federal Government before he retired.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge #134 and Moose Lodge #299. He attended St. Mary’s Parish, Bedford, VA, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lancaster, PA. Walter played and coached baseball for many years. He was also a referee for basketball. Walter was passionate about golfing, loved to dance and travel, enjoyed bowling, going fishing and was an avid reader.
Surviving are 3 children: Joan Stone, wife of Jerry, Julie English, wife of John, and David Zimmerman, husband of Deborah; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, I. Ronald Zimmerman.
Family and friends will be received from 7-9 PM with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8 PM on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602. Visitation will continue from 10-11 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Friday, September 21 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St Joseph Street, Lancaster, PA 17603. Interment will be at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital, PO Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033 or to https://www.fourdiamonds.org.
