Richard J. Adair, Sr., 70

January 05, 2024

Richard J. Adair, Sr., aged 70, passed away on January 5, 2024, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of Arlene (Brownsworth) and William Adair. Richard was the beloved husband of Shirley (Carr), and together they celebrated over 50 years of marriage.

Richard had a passion for life and engaged in various hobbies that brought him joy and fulfillment. He found solace and excitement in hunting and fishing, connecting with nature and the thrill of the outdoors. His skills in fixing cars showcased his mechanical prowess, and the satisfaction of seeing a well-repaired vehicle added a sense of accomplishment to his days.

An avid fan of speed and competition, Richard enjoyed watching Nascar. The roaring engines, fast-paced races, and camaraderie of fellow fans made it a thrilling pastime for him.

Survived by his loving wife, Shirley Adair of Lancaster, PA, and son Richard J. Adair, Jr., husband of Madeleine, of Red Lion, PA. His legacy continues through his granddaughters, Aubrey and Kaitlin. Richard is also survived by his sisters, Kathy Garcia of Lancaster and Karen Schaefer of Gap, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by his beloved dogs, Bailey and Mocha.

Richard was preceded in death by his son Kenneth W. Adair and his brothers Gerald and James Adair.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association, 3001 Old Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.

Shirley.  Tom and I were sadden to hear of Rick’s death.  He was a good man, and definately had a zest for life.  We enjoyed the days bowling together, and also the good old days of Nascar.  Both of you had gone through so much with Rick’s health.  He’s in a better place, and at peace.  Love to you and Ricky.
