Pauline Rose Amico, 96

May 11, 1927 - March 08, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pauline Rose Amico, a beloved member of the Lancaster community and a devoted nurse, who passed away on March 8, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born on May 11, 1927, in Lancaster, PA to Charles and Rose Steinbaecher. Pauline will be remembered fondly for her compassionate nature, dedication to her patients, and her love for her family.

Pauline was a lifelong Catholic, finding comfort in her faith and actively participating in the community through her involvement in Guys and Dolls and the Women’s Auxiliary at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. A proud alumna of Lancaster Catholic High School, class of 1945, she went on to graduate from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1948, where she was a member of the last class of cadet nurses. Pauline dedicated over 30 years of her life to St. Joseph’s Hospital, serving as a nurse until her retirement in 1992.

Throughout her life, Pauline found joy in the simple pleasures, such as her fondness for raccoons and black cats, reflecting her warm and nurturing spirit. She cherished time spent with her family, including regular visits to Riverside Campground in Maryland with her husband. Pauline’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her surviving sons, Thomas Amico, husband of Cheryl of Holtwood, and David Amico, husband of Roxanne of Bradenton, FL, grandchildren Janice Moore (Eric), Lori Schmidt (Trey), Stephen Amico, Jennifer Burger (Chris), and Melissa Amico, and great grandchildren, Caleb, Colton, Drew, Eliannah, Asher, Logan, and Riley. She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Thomas J. Amico, her sister Sandra Kueny, and a great granddaughter Paige Moore.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 15, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St. Lancaster, PA 17603, with a viewing being held at the church starting at 10 AM. Interment to follow at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to the church at the address above or Lancaster Catholic High School.

Dear Tom & Cheryl. Dave & Roxanne & family, I am deeply saddened to hear of your loss, the loss of dear Pauline. I was 5 years old when we moved in next door and so I basically grew up with Pauline & Tom as neighbors.  How Destiny weaves her magic…how fortunate to have two very special people so close!  And over the years they morphed into my honorary aunt and uncle. I have such wonderful memories of good times shared and treasured stories of our decades of kinship. Remembering now, my heart smiles and I can not help but say “Thank you.”  How you are remembered by those who know and love you is your legacy. I would like to highlight that thought now when I say Aunt Pauline was not just loved…she was cherished and will be dearly missed. She and Uncle Tom touched the lives of so many through their genuine kindness and loving example.  Please know that the sorrow you feel now is also a measure of the love you have for her. Your tears, gifts of that love ascending. May you find comfort in the knowledge that others care and share your sorrow. And may the memories you hold dear bring you solace in your darkest hours. I am holding you close in heart, enfolding you in my love and prayers. Be at peace knowing Aunt Pauline is reunited with Uncle Tom, and is cradled within angel’s wings. Caressed by Heaven’s love. 💗
