David N. Axe, 82, of Lancaster, went home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2024, after a lengthy illness, under the compassionate care of hospice. Born on September 13, 1941, to the late Esther and Kenneth Axe, Dave worked as a truck driver for companies such as Roadway, Yellow Freight, and Taylor Oil Company, before retiring from HOP Energy. He was a longtime member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

He leaves behind his wife of over 50 years, Geraldine (Gerry); daughter, Donna (Daryl) Nissley, of Lancaster; son, David L. Axe, of Ephrata; sisters, Duanne Mishler of Mount Joy, Chrislyn (Kevin) Randell of Denver, Colorado; brothers, Barry (Margaret) Axe of Quarryville, Kenneth (Linda) Axe of Belview, Florida, Timothy (Carol) Axe of Lancaster, and Christopher Axe of East Petersburg. His grandchildren, Mike Axe of Los Angeles, California, and Matt (Meagan) Lawrence of Millersville, also survive him.

Dave is remembered for his faith in Jesus, his smart and witty sense of humor, his love for doo-wop music, his passion for genealogy, and his enjoyment of red wine. Dave has made a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 441 N. George Street, Millersville, on Monday, February 26, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a service with Pastor Maureen Seifried. Interment will follow at Mount Hope United Methodist Cemetery, 75 Mount Hope Road, Quarryville, PA 17566.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dave’s memory should be made to Amedisys Hospice or Ascension Lutheran Church in Willow Street.

Mike, Gerri and family: I will always remember what a fun character Dave was during our time together at Sacred Heart school when you (Mike) and Maggie, Claire and Anthony attended. I enjoyed all the times Dave and Gerri and I would talk together. He made me laugh more than once!
Rest in peace, Dave.  I will have you and your family in my prayers.  Pat Nissley

Saddened to hear of David Nelson Axe’s passing.  We last met at the York Axe Reunion 2023.  Even with his health issues, he had an amazing recall of my Axe genealogy and family. Though, it had been a few years of my missing the reunion due to covid and other events.  Peace be with you! Steven O. Axe

Dave was a great person. We spent many hours together and on the phone with the Axe geneology, we even went cemetery hopping. That was a fun day and we found what we were looking for. I will miss Dave and all he had to offer in our quest to research our ancestors. I will miss him at the Axe Reunion as well. I salute you my dear friend and I send condolences to all your family, especialy Gerry. My heart goes out to all. Michele D Wallick

David was a joy to know. He and I first met when I was in PA “doing genealogy.” Those of us in the Axe Geneology Group knew him as “East Coast Dave.” I was “West Coast Dave” for many years until I learned in a 2009 DNA test 12 of us “Axes” took, that I was not an Axe afterall. Nevertheless, Dave and I kept in touch over the years. I will truely miss our phone conversations. Dave Axe (NPE Golden) Shoreline, WA
