Earl “LaVern” Hornberger, 92

October 31, 2025

Earl “LaVern” Hornberger, 92, of Ephrata, passed away on October 31, 2025. Born in Denver, PA, he was the son of the late Earl and Florence Hornberger. He was also the devoted husband to Georgine Hornberger for 68 years.

Prior to his retirement at 71, LaVern was a stone mason who took pride in his work. He also proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, spending some time in Korea. Outside of work, LaVern loved ballroom dancing with his wife, even helping start a dance club in Ephrata years ago. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his home flower gardens. He was humble, kind, and had a deep love for his family, making sure to spend time with his grandchildren. If he was not busy, you could find him at home watching Gilmore Girls.

LaVern is survived by his wife Georgine; children Jill (David) Carr, Andrea (Damon) Smothers; grandchildren Paige Hart, Christian Smothers, and Vaughn Smothers; and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in passing by his sister, Shirley Hoppman.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Rd, Annville, PA at 1:30PM. For those attending, please plan to arrive at the cemetery office no later than 1:15PM.
