Dorothy E. Baile, 103
November 3, 1921 - October 15, 2025
On October 15, 2025, we said farewell to our loving mother, Dorothy Elizabeth Baile. The second of four children of Carrie (Werner) Brown and Ervin C. Brown, mom was born in Strasburg Township on November 3, 1921. Mom grew up on a farm in Lancaster County, attended a one-room school house for eight years, and then graduated from East Lampeter High School in 1939. Three years later she graduated from the Reading Hospital School of Nursing. Mom then worked at Lancaster General Hospital as a registered nurse for more than 40 years while raising five children. A few of her favorite pastimes included crocheting, reading, completing word puzzles, swimming, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Mom married Charles M. Baile who served in Pennsylvania’s 28th Infantry Division during World War II. A proud American and avid news follower, mom prayed for the soldiers in WWII and subsequent wars. Mom proudly remembered her five children serving as school safety patrols.
Mom served as a faithful member of the Lancaster First Church of God (now Chestnut Hill Church) and enjoyed her church family and many activities there. She also worshiped at Lake Ridge Baptist Church for the eight years she lived with her daughter in Virginia. Mom taught us to always give thanks in every circumstance and ended every phone call with “Thank you for calling.” She shared her gratitude with every passing soul with a glowing smile. For her 100 year birthday, she was celebrated by family and friends with numerous parties. Neighbors knew mom by her kind smile and wave as they passed her during her daily walks. She was loved by all who met her and will be greatly missed.
Mom, who shares her memorial stone with late son Robert, will be laid to eternal rest near her youngest son Douglas (Paula) on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Boehm’s United Methodist Cemetery, Willow Street, PA. Her oldest daughter Janet Hassel (Bob), youngest daughter Julie Brown (Fred), and oldest son Don welcome your prayers and remembrances. Mom’s seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren will always have wonderful memories to share about her as they grow and continue her legacy of kindness, generosity, faithfulness, and sacrificial love.
We, along with the families of the late Ethel Bielmyer, C. Ervin Brown, and Carolyn Murray, invite you to mom’s memorial service at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA, 17584. We will greet you beginning at 1:00 pm and an Inurnment will be held at Boehm’s United Methodist Cemetery, Willow Street, PA, following the service.

Condolences to the Family

My deepest sympathy to your whole family in the loss of your amazing 103-year-old mother. Janet and I were faithful playmates all through our first five grades in elementary school and we were always swinging around on the metal poles and fencing in their backyard like we were in a circus. Her mother had her hands full with us!
I’m sorry I won’t be able to attend the service, but I will pray for all of you at that time and beyond. Elaine Mazakas

Dear Don, Janet and Julie,
I send my deepest sympathy to you and all who loved your dear Mother. I have many wonderful memories of my dear Aunt Dot from when we were younger which I will always cherish. She always had a kind and loving smile for us when we visited. She is well loved and will be missed. While I can’t be there with you in person tomorrow, I will be with you in spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and with dear Aunt Dot!
Much love,
Cousin Philip Brown

Dorothy was a very sweet lady. I enjoyed sitting at the “lunch table” with my mom, June, Dorothy, Kitty and Jenny. Dorothy always had a smile for everyone. I am very glad that I got to meet her and spend time with her. Suzette Lawrence

All at Lake Ridge Baptist sure did miss Ms. Dorothy when she moved to Pennsylvania, but every time I would see Julie and Fred in church, I would be reminded of Ms. Dorothy’s beautiful legacy because they (and all who knew her) clearly loved her so much. Back in the day, it was a blessing to see them all in church together and Ms. Dorothy’s warm smile. Praying that God will comfort all of her loved ones until we all meet again. Linda Winings
