Martha Joan (Wiseman) Smith, 73

September 18, 2025

Martha Joan Smith, 73, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025. Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Patrick Wiseman and Dorothy “Honey” Honicker Wiseman. She was lovingly married to Joseph N. Smith for 42 years until his passing in 2023.

Martha was a graduate of Great Valley High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and her master’s degree from Millersville University. She taught French in the School District of Lancaster for 30 years. Martha was passionate about teaching and educating the youth. She facilitated educational tours to France for her students to experience the language, culture, and history firsthand. Martha loved to be among her flower garden and spend time with her and Joe’s dogs. She cherished going ‘down the shore’ to Stone Harbor, NJ.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Carrie L. Cammauf (Stephen) and her brother, Eric Wiseman (Susan) and her nieces and their families. She was predeceased by her brother, Mark Wiseman.

Martha’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Patricia Hildebrand, caregiver with Visiting Angels in Lancaster, for her care and compassion.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Martha’s name to Alzheimer’s Association.

I was also very fortunate to have had Martha as my sister in-law. She was a great lady with an amazing sense of humor. We spent many years together at family functions. She will be dearly missed and loved. Memories are abundant. I’ll miss you Martha Joan! ♥️♥️♥️Angela Jackson
