Harold S. Fry, 90
August 24, 2025
Harold S. Fry passed away peacefully on Sunday August 24, 2025. He was born at home on June 5, 1935, in Neffsville, PA, to the late Walter T. Fry and Bertha May (Shultz) Fry.
He was the loving husband of Burnetta Mae (Miller) Fry, his high school sweetheart. They were married on March 2, 1956, in Lancaster, PA, and shared nearly 70 years of life together.
Harold graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1953, where he lettered in both baseball and basketball. He was also a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was assigned to the 6th Heavy Bombardment Wing at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, NM. He trained at Sampson AFB in New York and Lowry AFB in Colorado before flying aboard the Convair B-36 bombers, which he greatly enjoyed. He was honorably discharged in January 1958 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Following his military service, Harold began a long career with Bell of Pennsylvania, working in Harrisburg, Conshohocken, and Philadelphia. He retired as a Financial Manager from Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) in 1989 after 32 years of service. In retirement, he continued working part-time for H&R Block as a tax preparer in Phoenixville and New Holland for 15 years.
Harold was a lifelong sports enthusiast. He especially loved baseball and softball, playing from his youth with Neffsville teams to his later years with the Willow Street Blue, well into his seventies. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time at Buck Harbor Lodge in Mifflin County, where he was the last of the original members and served many years as Lodge President.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife, Burnetta; their three children: Kimberly Ann, wife of Paul Schwarzhaupt of Chambersburg, PA; Gregory Scott, husband of Justine, of Trooper, PA; and Susan Elaine, wife of Brian Jennings, also of Trooper, PA. He was the proud grandfather of Aspen, Jacob, and Amanda, and great-grandfather of Mayson and Rileigh.
Along with his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his sister Anna and brothers John (wife Elizabeth), Vernon (wife Nancy), and Fred (wife Gloria).
A funeral service will be held Friday August 29, 2025, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz PA, 17602 at 11am. Family invites guests to greeting them prior to service from 10am-11am. Harold will be laid to rest at Long Memorial United Methodist Cemetery.
