Charles “Red” H. Meshey, 91

August 04, 2025

Charles “Red” H. Meshey, 91, of Landisville, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lancaster, PA, Red was the son of the late Florence (Rineer) and Paul Meshey. He was the devoted husband of Shirley (McComsey) Meshey, with whom he shared 72 wonderful years of marriage.

Red proudly dedicated over 40 years to Armstrong, where he worked as a Supervisor until his retirement. Not one to sit still for long, he continued to stay active in retirement, working part-time at Leisure Lanes for 19 years. Red and Shirley also enjoyed living in Florida for 11 years, making many lasting memories together.

Known for his friendly and outgoing nature, Red was truly a people person. He loved bowling and golfing, took great pride in maintaining his yard, and cherished time spent camping and playing cards with friends and family.

Above all, Red was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; their two children, Beverle Torre (Bartolo) and Bryan Meshey (Lisa), both of Landisville; four grandchildren, Bart, Amanda, Zakery, and Deycon; and his great-granddaughter, Llayla. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Fay Byers, Peggy Kelly, and William Meshey.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory. Family and friends will be received beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Red’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater PA Chapter, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

I grew up next door to the Meshey’s.
And like children will do I learned how to be an adult by observing and asking questions of adults. And when Mr. Meshey came to fix  our television set I had a lot of questions. Mr.Meshey moved me back 2 feet so he could work, and proceeded to answer all my questions . Mr.Mesthey used an electronic meter and other tools from his tool belt, ( a belt hung with tools, how cool is that.) He explained that a  bad vacuum tube caused the television to stop working.
When Mr.Meshey later returned with a new vacuum tube I helped fix the television by keeping a 2 foot distance.
Mr.Meshey was a man to look up to, and when he installed a television antenna on our home, I had to look way up, because I was not allowed to follow him up the ladder.
Mr. and Mrs.Meshey bought a camper, my father also listened to Mr.Meshey so he bought a camper also. Our family’s would sometimes go camping together.
Thank you Mr and Mrs.Meshey demonstrating what it is to be a good person.
Thank you Mr.Meshey for demonstrating what it is to be a good man.

I had the pleasure of caring for Red whom come to find out was my Grandfather’s (Russell “Muscles” Rohrer) boss at Armstrong up until I had to have back surgery. Never a dull moment. He was so sweet he’d send up the stair chair after he rode it. Always charging me a nickel. I always told him to put it on my tab. I will miss his humor and those beautiful blue eyes . In the 1970’s in Delta, PA I was blessed to meet and spend time with Red and Shirley at their cabin!  The memories flood my mind with the smell of homemade caramel corn, Red patiently stirring the magical mixture at the stove, the smell of the woodburning stove, hot cocoa and laughter.  They loved their cabin and we loved them and of course Bryan riding his 4 wheeler, tearing up the gravel roads and swimming and fishing in the pond.  Our heartfelt sympathy to your entire family.
