June L. Schwar, 88
July 09, 2025
June L. Schwar, 88, of Millersville, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital on July 9, 2025. Born in Millersville, she was the daughter of the late Clyde M. and Esther (Brenneman) Ament. June was the devoted wife of the late Edward L. Schwar, Jr., who died in 2019.
June was a 1954 graduate of Penn Manor High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education in 1958 at Penn State University, where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alph Fraternity. She later obtained her master’s degree through Millersville University. June held various jobs over the years, but she especially enjoyed her time teaching Child Development at J.P. McCaskey High School. She always loved when, years later, she encountered her past students in the community and would catch up on their lives.
Following her retirement, June enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ed, spending many winters in the Florida Keys. Additional trips included Alaska, river cruises through Europe, tours of Russia and South America, and an African Safari. Together, June and Ed visited 27 different countries. Her favorite trips, however, were those with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to their family cabin in Lycoming County or their summer home in Bethany Beach, DE., where many beautiful and forever memories were made.
June was a longtime member of the Hope Campus of the Millersville Community Church. She loved to read, work in her garden, and play cards with her girlfriends. She enjoyed going to craft shows, where she often sold wreaths and other creations made from shells she collected on their Florida trips. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain guests. June was an enthusiastic fan of Penn State sports and enjoyed cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies teams. But what June cherished most was her family, who she loved and cared for deeply. She was truly the matriarch of the family and the glue that held everyone together.
June is survived by her children: Linda (Patrick) Marion, of Stevens, Cindy (Barry) Tascione, of Millersville, and Edward (Julie) Schwar III, of Middletown, DE; 8 grandchildren: Shane (Sara) Marion, Casey Marion, Patrick (Shannon) Marion, Stacey Bennett, Michael Tascione, Edward “Buddy” Schwar IV, Kevin Schwar, Eric (Kirsten, fiancé) Schwar; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; brother: Dan (Wendy Ross) Ament; sister in law: Charlene Bryson; 2 nephews and 1 niece.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, July 25 from 10AM to 11AM, at Millersville Community Church – Hope Campus, 242 Bender Rd., Millersville, PA 17551. A Memorial Service will follow at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church at the address above or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
