William Herbert “Trey” Egan III, 76

June 17, 2025

William Herbert “Trey” Egan, III, 76, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Lancaster General Hospital.  Born in San Antonio, TX, he was the son of the late William Herbert and Maxine (Crissman) Egan II. Trey was the devoted and loving husband of Beth (Walters) Egan with whom he would have celebrated 47 years of marriage on June 24.

Trey earned his bachelor’s degree at Ohio University in 1970 and was a diehard Bobcats fan. He was life-long “Brother in the Bond” of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He worked for 50 years as a manufacturing representative in the home furnishing industry.  He also helped in designing the lines of furniture prior to manufacturing. His career offered the opportunity to live in a variety of places like Chicago (Go Cubs!), San Francisco, Connecticut, and finally bringing them back to Lancaster, where Beth was born and raised. Trey grew to love the Lancaster County values and culture.

Trey began to develop a passion for golfing, through the influence of his father, at the early age of 5 while living in San Antonio. He played golf in high school, college, and throughout life, even traveling to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to play in the TaylorMade Invitational for 8 years.  Trey and his wife were members of the Conestoga Country Club for 33 years.  Trey loved 60’s music and 70’s Rock and Roll, especially the Beach Boys, Beatles, and Motown, and always had music playing in the house.

In addition to the love of his life, Beth, Trey is survived by his loving daughters, Kaitlin, of Los Angeles, and Jessica Sheaffer, wife of Andrew, of Lancaster; and adoring grandchildren: Egan, Beau, and Ella, who brought Trey, who was affectionately known as “Eggie”, the greatest joy.

Trey was a dedicated family man, his family was always his number one priority.  Always with a smile, Trey brought joy not only to his family, but to his many friends and colleagues.  He lived his life with compassion, love, humor, and generosity for numerous charitable organizations, veteran organizations, and especially the Wounded Warrior Project.

A celebration of life honoring Trey will be held from 2-4 pm on Sunday, September 28,2025, at Conestoga Country Club, 1950 Stone Mill Rd., Lancaster, PA 17603. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Stroke Association or to Wounded Warrior Project.

What a truly good person we lost.  Enjoyed spending Saturday and Sunday mornings with him at CCC.  He taught me how to properly address the golf ball.  I feel so lucky to have met him.  Prayers to his family. Sam Smith

I met Trey playing golf at Conestoga when I was a member there.  He was a very good golfer and an even better human being.  A true gentleman!  My life is richer for having known him.

Trey you will be missed.  I enjoyed playing golf  with you thru the years.  How you always told the story of my eagle on ten at CCC.  Every time I play that hole I think of you.  My best memories will be the conversations we had about our daughters.  You always asked about Ashley and we had many great talks about Jess and Kaitlin.  I miss you my friend. Prayers to your family during this time.

So very sad to hear of Trey’s passing in June. Trey and I played a lot of golf together at CCC during the years I was a member there. He was always so much fun to play with and loved his golf stories. Condolences to his family. RIP my friend.
