Richard C. Anderson, 80

July 05, 2025

Richard C. Anderson, 80, of Mount Joy, passed away on July 5, 2025.

He was the beloved husband of Karen B. VanNevel Anderson, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage this past May 18th. Born in Chicago, he was the son of the late Richard J. and Margaret L. Cowan Anderson.

Dick was a proud US Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War as a Specialist 4th Class Military Policeman, earning the Navy Unit Commendation Medal with Two Overseas Bars, and the Army Commendation Medal.

Retiring after a 44 year career with RR Donnelly and Sons as a bindery manager, he began his employment with them in their Chicago headquarters at the age of 17 as an intern.

Dick enjoyed traveling all over the US with his wife, taking in the National Parks and sights of the country. They loved their road trips and seeing all our beautiful country has to offer. He was an avid reader who enjoyed educating himself and especially loved historical nonfiction. His family was his greatest joy and he enjoyed spending time with them, especially taking his grandson, Connor, to baseball games and all kinds of fun adventures.

In addition to his loving wife, Karen, he is survived by his daughters: Kirsten L. married to David Gniewek of Chambersburg, PA and Karin C. Socaransky of Haddon Twp., NJ and by his grandson, Connor Gniewek. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Wright. In addition, he is survived by his loving brother in law and sister in law, Larry and Kathy VanNevel and their 2 daughters Carissa and Ashley.

Friends may visit with Dick’s family on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 9:30-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA with the Memorial Service to follow at 11AM. Interment will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his memory to PA Wounded Warriors Inc., 1013 Mumma Rd. Suite 203, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.

I worked with Dick at the East Plant when I was in the Lancaster Manufacturing Division in the 1980s.  We had some good times together.  Dick was always a consummate professional, never angry, and always was clear in his purpose.  Best wishes to his family – I feel your loss, as Dick as a very special mentor for me. I worked for Dick. I remember his humor, fairness and authenticity were off the charts!  He was a working man’s leader. There are a lot of people out there who are better because of him. I’m one of them. He was a testament to a good soul. May fond memories carry you through this chapter in your lives. Tom Bastian
