Shirley Ann (Stauter) Little Engle, 87

July 01, 2025

Shirley Ann (Stauter) Little Engle, 87, of Lancaster, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Hospice & Community Care of Mount Joy, PA. Shirley was born November 9, 1937, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lancaster, PA, to the late Leon Smith and Julia (Gundaker) Stauter.

Shirley worked as a supervisor in the kitchen for St. Joseph Hospital for over 40 years. After her retirement, she decided to go back to work for the St. Joseph Catholic Church rectory as a parish housekeeper/cook. She was known for her excellent cooking and baking skills; her specialties were her potato salad, fruit salad, and sugar cookies, which were a staple at family dinners. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also liked to bowl, watch golf, go on weekly shopping trips, go to the beach, collect angels, and cheer on the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. She was a devout Catholic and long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Women’s Club.

Shirley is survived by three children, Mary Little, Richard Little, Jr., and Steve, husband of Mary Ellen Little; five grandchildren, Jason Little, Ryan, husband of Samantha Little, Ashley Little-Shorter, Dillyn Little, and Jordan Zonin; and eight great-grandchildren, Avery, Sara, Sophia, Ava, Aubrey, Evangeline, Emersyn, and Dillon. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Lou Harrigan and Ada Mae Stauter, and a brother, Leroy “Sonny” Stauter Jr. Shirley also leaves behind nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster, PA 17603. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Shirley’s name to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Hospice & Community Care of Mount Joy, PA.
