H. Stanley Wills, 94

June 29, 2025

H. Stanley Wills, 94, of Lancaster, PA, peacefully crossed over into everlasting life while at the Glen at Willow Valley on Sunday, June 29, 2025. He was the son of the late Estella (McCue) and Stanley H. Wills. He was the beloved husband of Carole A. (Byrne) Wills, with whom he shared 35 wonderful years of marriage.

Stanley’s gifts of leadership were evident in every aspect of his life. Stan was a graduate of Milton Hershey Industrial school and went on to serve on the President’s Advisory Board. He served in the Korean War as a 1st lieutenant in the US Army. He earned his master’s degree from Millersville University and dedicated his career to education and public service. He worked as a teacher, guidance counselor, and later as the Director for the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

He served as the Mayor of Mount Joy, PA, from 1988 to 1998, where his wisdom, wit, and dedication to his community left a lasting impact. He was known as a problem solver, a man of brilliance and perseverance, someone who could light up a room.

Stanley excelled in all sports, especially wrestling and baseball. He was a member of Crossway Church and Landisville Camp Meeting Association.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carole; his children: Michael Wills (Roberta) of Dallastown, PA, Laura Jones of Walnutport, PA, and Chad Wess (Kim) of Arnold, MD; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Crossway Church, 330 Barbara Street, Millersville, PA 17551. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church’s building fund.

Carole,  What a beautiful life you and Stan lived. I will always remember the love in your eyes when you looked at each other.  What beautiful memories I have of you and Stan always holding hands and enjoying every moment together.  Stan by your side.
I share what I believe because it is so true.  I know for certain we never lose the people we love, even to death.  They continue to participate in every act, every thought and every decision we make.  Their love leaves an indelible print in our memories.  May God give you strength in your sad moments and know my heart is breaking for you Carole.  With Love and prayers Ruth Rankin

Dear Carol and family,
My deepest condolences to all of you.  Stanley’s office was next to mine for many years. He treated me so well, introducing me to colleagues at the PA Dept. Of Education. He was respected and liked everywhere we went.  I remember so well when he started seeing you , Carole. He couldn’t stop talking about you.  AND of course I will never forget the pink fur coat.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Liz Stanley-Swope

Carole and family,
May you find peace knowing that Stan was admired and respected by all who’s lives he touched. My thoughts are with you all.  Even after decades of retirement I often thought about Stan. Just so many good memories. John Brunette

Dear Carole and Family,
We are so saddened to learn of Stan’s passing, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Stan was a remarkable man, truly one of a kind. I joined PSEA in 1991 and had the pleasure of becoming Stan’s secretary. He taught me so much through his professionalism, efficiency, expertise, and good common sense. I could not have worked for a more complimentary, encouraging, and gracious man. My successful career with PSEA was very much molded by Stan’s example.
He will be greatly missed and will always be in our hearts and minds.
With Sincerest Sympathy and Love,
Cathy and Owen Smyth

To all of our friends and family who attended the funeral and Life Celebration we thank you.  My father was an amazing man who touched many lives.  If he would have been with us on that day… Oh my, if he would have been there… the stories he might have shared with us and about us would have filled the room.  I’m sure he was there in spirit as so many of you brought a story to share with us.  You brought joy to his life and through him it was our joy too.  Thank you for making this day one that we as family will celebrate and carry with us forever.  God has blessed each of us and it was my pleasure to share that day with you.
