James Smallwood Jr., 59

May 20, 2025

The world unexpectedly lost James D. Smallwood Jr., 59, on May 20, 2025. Jim, affectionately known as Jimmy to his friends, was a sweet, kind soul who loved golf, gadgets, and animals. His childlike enthusiasm was always on display, and he always had time to talk about his newest golf club or his air fryer on the app.

He loved spending time with his parents, brothers, nephews, and many friends. He will surely be missed by all.

Jim graduated from Manheim Township High School, Class of 1983, where he played on the golf team for three years. After high school, he attended Hill Top Prep for one year. It was there that he learned to study, played on the school’s basketball team, and made lifelong friends he stayed in touch with.

After Hill Top, he attended Davis & Elkins College, graduating with a degree in Communications. He proudly played on the college golf team for four years.

Following D&E, he went to YTI in Harrisburg, earning a degree in Computer Science. He spent the next year integrating computer systems at LGH Hospital. He eventually found his place at ASC Engineering Solutions in Columbia, PA.

Jim also ran a small side business driving family and friends to the airport. It was on one of these trips that he passed away.

A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E Delp Rd, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Condolences to the Family

May 28, 2025

I am shocked to learn of Jimmy’s passing. The family would not remember me, because I was just a visitor to my sister and brother in law’s home on Riveredge Drive, for years, but I sure remember them, and especially the “boys” in the family. I can still see each of their faces and their childhood enthusiasm. Jimmy was a buddy of my nephew, Michael.  I send my deep and sincere condolences to the Smallwood family and know that the memories of Jimmy will remain indelible. If can still remember him so well, I am certain the memories the family has will also become forever memories
Nothing makes any sense during these difficult times, but the love that has always existed for Jimmy and for his brothers will sustain you all.
Blessings to the family, Saly Wortman, Fort Myers, FL

So very sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. It’s especially hard to lose someone suddenly and at such a young age. We got to know Jim while using his services as a driver to and from the airport. He was always very prompt and reliable, never complaining when there was a delay, and always greeted us with a smile.  His kind and engaging personality made our travel enjoyable and he will be sorely missed. Our sympathy and prayers are with his family. Dave & Mary Kay Roda

my heart sank, with the news of Jim’s passing he will definitely be missed, by family and friends & was often a player on Saturdays and Sundays.with the Miller group. many times we rode together, and I enjoyed his conversations about life, and Golf.. He always conducted himself it in a professional manner , and I am glad to say, that we played many rounds together. He will definitely be missed, but his name will be mentioned for many years to come, which means, he won’t be forgotten. My sympathies go out to the family, and hopefully the pain of this loss, will give way, to all those responding to Jim’s passing. God bless his entire family, they are all in our prayers.
