Jonathan L. “Andy” King, 95
February 24, 2025
With joy, sadness and hope in a new life, we share that Jonathan L. “Andy” King, 95, of Ronks, passed away on February 24, 2025.
Jonathan was a man of many names; “Andy”, “Jon” or “Yonie” and a friend to many people though out his life. He was the husband of the late Grace Burkhart King, who passed away in 1999 and the late Phyllis L. Kurtz King, who passed away in 2023. Born in Leacock Twp., he was the son of the late Christ F. and Lydia Lantz King.
Andy grew up working on the family farm. At 16 he purchased an Indian Motorcycle and began working as a stone mason, helping to build many homes in both the Lancaster, Pa. and Sarasota Fl areas. When he was ready to settle down, he married and became a butcher by trade. Andy was the former owner operator and butcher of Kings IGA in Paradise for 29 years. The little store was a “mom and pop” fixture in the area. Afterwards he continued working along with his son Neal, for 50 years at his shop, Kings Butcher Shop in Ronks.
He was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Paradise, where he served as a lay leader for 10 years, a church trustee and on many committees over the years.
Andy was a big Philadelphia sports teams fan, enjoyed golf and hunting, spending time at his hunting camp in Huntingdon, PA. He enjoyed clams, oysters, steamed crabs and Prime Black Angus Beef (of course) and traveling.
He was involved in his community in many ways, being a member of the Paradise Twp. Lions Club for 60 years, serving as a past president and being honored with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, and the Paradise Sportsmans Club, serving as past president as well.
Andy is survived by his children: Neal married to the late Denise King of Ronks, and Sally A. married to Steven W. Gainer of Ronks; his grandchildren Jonny married to Taylor Gainer, David Gainer, Josie Campbell, Angie married to Sean Manni, Eric married to Krista Wise and Ryan Dimm; his 10 great grandchildren; and siblings Mary married to the late Elmer Fisher, Amos J. married to Phyllis King, and Esther married to the late Gil Courtney. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin, Reuben, and Samuel and his sisters, Fannie Beiler and Anna Mae Glick.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 1-2PM at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 3001 Lincoln Hwy East, Paradise, PA 17562, with the Funeral Service to follow at 2PM.
