Harold B. Hoover, 90, of Leola, died October 14 with his family by his side. Born in Lancaster on October 11, 1934, he was the second son of Clarence W. Hoover and Annie Booth Hoover

He worked for his father as a meat cutter at “C.W. Hoover’s Pleezing Food Store” before and after graduating from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1952. After graduation, he joined the Air Force Reserves. Then he completed a two-year program at Penn State and began work at Aggregate’s Equipment as a purchasing agent and did drafting work for the Leola Water Authority. After retirement he worked part-time at Precision Form in Lititz.

He married Thelma Huzzard in 1955. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage before she passed in 2017. Harold is survived by his son, Alan, his daughter Kelle (wife of Ron Pfahler), his granddaughter Sara Tomison (Craig) and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Danielle. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Dan Huzzard (Patricia) and several nieces and nephews.

Harold was a community servant. He joined the Upper Leacock Fire Company in 1964 and became a lifetime member. He served as president for several years. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, the Leola Ambulance, The Odd Fellows, Union Fire Company and the Leola War Memorial. He also attended Georgetown United Methodist Church.

Thank you to the staff of Neffsville Nursing and Rehab for caring for him the past 15 months and to his roommate Bob for being such a good friend. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Upper Leacock Fire Company in his honor. We love you, Dad (Po)!

Condolences to the Family

My sympathy to Harolds family. He was one of my dads best buddies, Warren (bill) wolf. Harold loved his fire company and all the community work he did. My dad now has a best buddy in heaven.
