George Andrew “Drew” Shoemaker, 70

October 22, 2024

George Andrew “Drew” Shoemaker, 70, of Lititz, passed away on October 22, 2024. Born in Lancaster to the late George and Carmelita Shoemaker, Drew was known for his big heart, infectious smile, and his love for life. He was a 1972 graduate of McCaskey High School.

After high school, he began a career at Armstrong, where he dedicated almost 20 years. Drew later found his professional calling in car sales. He spent most of his career at Lancaster County Motors until his retirement.

Drew loved watching sports, especially his Chicago Bears. Fondly known as “Shoebox,” he played softball for many years, always staying active and making countless friends along the way. Drew’s friendly nature and his straightforward, candid sense of humor endeared him to many. He loved to eat, plan gatherings, and bring people together, establishing himself as the life of any party and a friend to all.

Above all, Drew cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Ruth, who passed in 2011, and a loving father to his daughter, Kristie Kachel, and her husband Brad. His grandchildren, Bradyn and Alivia, who referred to him as “Poppy”, were his pride and joy.

He is also survived by his brother, Jeff Shoemaker. Along with his parents, Drew was preceded in death by his dear wife Ruth and his siblings Melissa, Greg, and Carmie.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service for George Andrew “Drew” Shoemaker on November 1, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. Please join us in bidding farewell to Drew and honoring his life. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date

I met Drew  early in  my softball  career and was  honored to  play  along  side of him.  Drew always  played  for the  best teams in the area due to his hitting  capabilities. He was truly a  scholar of the game, always  trying to  give  constructive  advice to  make  you  a better  player.  We always  had a good  group of  guys  who  loved to  play hard and have fun together.  Later in our  careers  we met  up again and  played together in the 50+  league , back in  New Danville  where our career began . Alot of the old guys joined the  team and  we were always  telling  stories  of the Good  Ole days. We certainly  had alot of fun all over again and  made some  new memories.  He was always  a good  teammate, respected by many  and a loyal friend to all that got to know him. Shoebox  will be  missed by the countless  people that had the honor to know him.

Drew was a good guy and neighbor. He was fun loving, very generous and always had a smile for everyone. He will be greatly missed here at Saxony, he planned many of our resident get togethers that everyone looked forward to. He was special and we always had a good time when he was with our group. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

I worked with him at Faulkner and we had a blast. We both lost our wives to pancreatic cancer and I could tell he never stopped missing her. I know he is in a better place with her now. My deepest sympathies to the entire family. He will be missed.

I worked with Drew at LCM for many years. He definitely kept the work place fun and interesting and I enjoyed working with him.  He knew I had a lengthy commute to work and would walk past my car and tell me I needed new tires before winter. I would tell him I know Drew when I get the extra money I will… a week later he and another coworker bought me 4 new tires and had them mounted and balanced. I’m not sure he ever knew how much I deeply appreciated that. ♥️
