Michael James “Mike” Omensetter, 72
September 10, 2024
Sweet, devoted husband, proud father to two outstanding men, and caring step father, Michael James “Mike” Omensetter, 72, of Bareville, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late James and Anna “Lois” (Rostick) Omensetter. He was married over 16 years to his beloved wife Faye B. (Shaub) Omensetter.
Out of high school, Mike enlisted in the US army, serving honorably as an army medic at Fort Sam Houston, TX. Returning to Montgomery County, he worked various jobs before becoming an electrical estimator for a number of years at the former Rumsey Electric Company in Conshohocken, PA. He then worked as a sheriff’s deputy for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department for 18 years until retiring in 2018. During his time there he worked toward his associate’s degree in Criminal Justice at Montgomery County Community College.
He was a man’s man. An avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed shooting sporting clays and pheasants, hunting with his son and friends and was a former Scout leader. He held black belts in Arnis and Kenpo, was a proud member of the NRA, the Patriotic Order Sons of America, Eagleville camp 523 and was obligated with many of his friends and Brothers on March 18, 2017 at the National Headquarters building in Valley Forge National Park. Mike was also a past mason. He enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow deputies and others from the courthouse where he worked, and organized a yearly Veteran’s Day shoot that became an event many looked forward to.
In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his 2 sons: Dereck Rogers (Wendy) and Michael Omensetter (Nicole) and a step daughter Brittany Young (Kurt); 3 grandchildren: Mitchell Rogers, and Fianna and Bennett Omensetter; and 2 step grandchildren: Liam and Abby Young; and his brother Kurt Omensetter.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 6–8 PM on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the funeral home, and the family will receive guests beginning at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider memorial contributions in Mike’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org, as this disease took away his freedom and enjoyment of his retirement years. You may also make a contribution to Souderton Harleysville Fish Game & Forestry Association, PO Box, 308, Tylersport, PA 18971.

To dear Faye,
I’m so glad I got to meet Mike when he still had that larger-than-life laugh and stories to tell that made us chuckle. I hope the difficult Alzheimer years fade quickly and better memories shine brightly to comfort you and make you smile remembering the good times.
Warmly, Robin

Dear Omensetters,
Mike saved my and my little sister’s lives. One hot summer day, we had gone to play in the streams in the boonies. I can’t remember where, (Shwenksville? area), we were from Souderton and I don’t remember how we got so far from home. What I do remember is we were having a glorious time splashing and creek walking and we got farther and farther out until the water was over our heads. I could swim a little. Vickie could not swim at all. She panicked and grabbed my shoulders pushing me under. Mike dove in out of somewhere and took her off of me and back to solid ground. In her panic, Vickie was pushing him under water too, but he was strong enough and big enough, and a good enough swimmer to paddle her back. Thank you Michael. XXXOOO

Although we lost touch with each other after high school, I remember the many nights touring around in his old Rambler, including the night I ended up being grounded for life! LOL
