Dorothy Petery “Dot” Demming, 93
May 12, 2024
Dorothy Petery “Dot” Demming, 93, a resident of Landis Homes and formerly of Akron and Lancaster was welcomed into her heavenly home by her Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 12, 2024, after living several years with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Born May 9, 1931, in Denver, she was the daughter to the late Irwin M. and Florence Heiser Petery. Dot shared 49 wonderful years of marriage to her husband, Alvin Demming until his death on May 23, 2002.
She proudly graduated from Denver High School, class of 1949. After High school, Dot worked for Walter W. Moyer before obtaining her cosmetology license in 1957. Dot honed her beautician skills over the next 40 years and even took her skills to local nursing home salons. She and Demmy travelled extensively and volunteered on the church mission team to Chile. One of Dot’s greatest loves was her family, who brought her great joy. Blessed with grand and great grandchildren, she loved hosting holiday dinners for family and friends.
A devout Christian, Dot would spend great time studying her Bible; and would take her teaching of faith to Grace Point Church, formerly, Ephrata Nazarene, where she was also a prayer warrior. One of Dot’s greatest desires is that all her family come to the saving knowledge that Jesus died for each of our sins and by believing on Him we will share eternal life in Heaven with Him. Dot loved to worship through music and singing in the choir.
Dot will be lovingly missed by her daughters, Lori Kepiro wife of Robert, of Smoketown, Alana Groff wife of Craig, of Lititz, as well as her four grandchildren, Sheldon Kepiro husband of Lorea, Jill Nolt wife of Zachary, Houston Groff husband of Lauren, Hayden Groff husband of Kelsea, six great grandchildren, Landon and Savannah Kepiro, Halle, Dexter, Whitney and Harper Groff and two sisters, Edith Moyer, of Carlisle, and Shirley wife of Dale Kemper, of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Kepiro, as well as four sisters and four brothers, Polly, Anna, Thelma, Doris, Henry, Lester, Robert, and Merritt.
Dot’s final wishes were for her body to be donated to Humanity Gifts registry in the hope of helping someone else in the future. We would like to thank the loving staff of the Lititz House of Landis Homes and Grane Hospice care for the care and kindness given to her during her illness. Her legacy will live on through her family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dot’s Celebration of Life at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Aunt Dot had the best laugh, I truly can hear it in my head now!!! She always welcomed me with open arms, while asking about my life! She truly wanted to know me even though we didn’t see one another a lot! Not only did she love her immediate family, she truly loved and prayed for her extended family as well! I felt it!! Now that I know Jesus Christ, it gives me great assurance to know she’s in his loving arms!! Keep singing, Aunt Dot!! We’ll see you again some day!! Love, Lisa Moyer Barto
