Margaret A. Smith, 93

November 23, 1930 - March 27, 2024

Margaret Ann “Peggy” Smith, 93, of Willow Street, entered eternal rest March 27, 2024, at the age of 93. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Margaret Macdonald.

Peggy attended Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass. And went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in English from Smith College in Northampton Mass. In 1952, she married her longtime love, Girard T. “Jerry” Smith, and would go on to share over 60 years together. During retirement they traveled extensively, pursued their mutual passion for collecting antiques and fine art, and operated an antiques business for 15 years. In her leisure time Peggy was an avid reader and participated in many book clubs. She was also a devout member of the First Unitarian Church, and participated with the Junior League in Wilmington, DE.

Her memories will live on in her sons, Girard T. Smith Jr., husband of Diana L. of West Chester, PA, and J. Breckenridge Smith of Hockessin, DE; her brother Dr. John S. Macdonald Jr., grandchildren, Jessica L. Smith, Girard T. Smith III, Andrew M. Smith, and Courtney A. Smith; as well as a great grandson, Vincent W. Hart. She was preceded in passing by her husband, their son, Stephen Macdonald Smith, and sisters, Jane Macdonald Healy and Sally Macdonald Kerr.

A service honoring Peggy will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Spring Run Auditorium of Willow Valley, 950 Willow Valley Lakes Dr. Willow Valley, PA 17584. The family will greet guests from 1 PM until the time of service.
