Robert C. Sloat, 96

Robert C. Sloat, 96, of Lancaster, PA passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024 at Hospice and Community Care. Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Ethel A. (Kautz) and Irvin C. Sloat. He was the beloved husband to Gladys M. (Randall) Sloat, with whom he celebrated over 75 years of marriage.
Robert was a graduate of Stevens Trade and was a member of their Sports Hall of Fame. He was a proud veteran of the US Army and installed radio and radar sites on multiple pacific islands during World War II.
Upon returning to Lancaster, PA Robert began working for RCA and married Gladys, where they raised their children. While raising their family, Robert enjoyed softball, choir, dancing Boy Scouts, golf and camping. After retiring, Robert and Gladys lived in Spring Hill, FL and later Hilton Head, SC. They returned to Lancaster in 2014.
Robert enjoyed traveling throughout his life. During his 42-year career at RCA Robert was engaged in deployment of picture tube manufacturing in Europe, Asia and North America. He and Gladys enjoyed traveling to Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and South America where they often traveled with People to People.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Glenna Wise (Scott) of Mountville, Craig Sloat (Gay) of Landisville and Karen Laniewicz of Ashland, VA; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son David Sloat as well as 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Robert was a respected husband, father, neighbor and friend. He will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Dear Karen and Mrs. Sloat, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Sloat. I spent many hours playing piano at your house, riding bikes with Karen and learning how to play guitar. I remember Mr. Float and Dave’s fondly as they picked me up at the airport out in Denver. I miss you and will always love you. kindest Sympathy,
