Today, May 24th, I received the shocking and tremendously heart-wrenching news of Sue’s passing. Scott and children, I am beyond words in conveying my sadness condolences. Sue was my classmate – graduated together from Lancaster Bible College – (both of senior age!) She was brilliant, fun-loving, savvy yet spiritually, deeply sound, and knew a “good bargain” when she found one. Permit me to share one of the hilarious moments Sue and I had together: one day while I was on an outing with my mother, we stopped to get lunch and meet Sue. Upon our arrival, I crawled into the back seat to get mother’s cane, and apparently, had forgotten to remove the $5.00 thrift shoppe price tag still on the bottom of my shoe. Sue, never missing a detail, laughed and said, “Steph, I tried on the same pair of shoes at that thrift store!!!” This was typical of her fun-loving humor! She prayed and worshipped with the same heartiness of spirit as the way in which she lived her life…to the fullest. I loved her dearly, and although we lost touch the past two years .. she was busy with shows and travel…we had years of fun and meaningful times. I love you, Sue….you left us too early, but our Creator knew best, and we cling to His promise that we shall meet again. Thank you for your friendship and sisterhood. I’ll hold you in my heart forever. Stephanie Schaefer

My sincerest, heartfelt condolences to Sue’s family. I met Sue in 6th grade and became fast friends. Her Dad was one of my teachers and her mom worked in the HS cafeteria. I spent time with her and her parents going camping and at sleepovers and absolutely LOVED seeing Sue and her mom at our annual 1976 class breakfasts and class reunions. Our loss is heaven’s gain and her beautiful light will shine on forever. Kimberly (Rittenour) Thomas

My condolences, I met Sue in a production of Sound of Music at Servant Stage she was a vivacious presence and continually would put up with all my shenanigans, telling me stories, and conversing about our shared love of music. I am grateful for her impact on me. I know she means the world to a lot of people, she made a huge impact on my life journey, so thank you, truly.

Dear Scott, and family, We have no words to comfort this sudden and heart wrenching loss. Because we no longer live in PA, we miss seeing your family occasionally, in the shop and at performances. It was such a treat to watch Sue embrace her roles in Annie and the Sound of Music. Deep grief is the evidence of deep love. May you feel God’s arms of comfort supporting in this new reality without Sue. Janis (Jan) Rutt Landes and Rich.

Sue has been coming to our salon for the past few years and had such an uplifting personality that shined when she walked through the doors!! I had the pleasure of doing her nails and loved talking with her about the adventures she was on and the ones she looked forward to. I truly believe her journey has led her Home and heaven celebrates her with open arms!! My sincere sympathy is with the entire family!! Sandy

I got to know Sue on the tennis court. We played as partners and as competitors. As a partner she provided strong support, always positive whether winning or losing. As a competitor, she forced those on the opposite side of the net to work harder. Always friendly and nonjudgemental. We will miss her as we adapt to life on the courts without her.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Sue’s passing. She was such a friendly and genuine person who cared about others. I will always remember her smile. She was a great actress and acting just seemed to come to her naturally. She gave me a lot of acting tips and advice that have helped to further my acting. I had the privilege of performing with her at Lebaonon Valley Community Theater and St. James Players. During the Anne of Green Gables The Musical performance, she taught me how to sew and use my sewing machine. I helped her sew a quilt as a gift for our Director, Karen. She also helped me learn to sew a pillow out of that fabric too and also took time to help me make a skirt for myself too. She also was trying to help me learn to swim and was a very patient teacher. She was a great friend and will be missed. When my youngest brother passed away unexpectedly she gifted me a copy of Tear Soup A Recipe For Healing After Loss that I treasure. She told me that she gave copies of this out to friends to help with the loss of loved ones. This book helped me a lot and I hope it would offer you and your family some comfort at this time. My condolences to you Scott and your children for your loss.

I just found out about her. I also was a nun alongside her in Servant Stage’s Sound of Music. Before then, we were friends, so it meant so much that she was in the play with me, to help me when I was scared. She helped me to have confidence and joy, and that I can belong. She was so sweet, funny, meant so much to me, and I’m grateful for the time God let us have together.

Effervescent Sue, she lite up a room With her smile, she had a mean Tennis serve and we could sing broadway tunes as we played together on the same side all while stradegizing our next play in our doubles match.
Sue was fun, a ballroom dancer, a singer, a soap maker a creative gardener a quilter, a prolific reader of all genres…what couldn’t she do! She got her degree at 50! Just for the pleasure of learning more… and boy did she love to learn! She loved history and learning everything she could about the places she’d visit with her beloved Scott or trusty travel companion her beloved mother. She so adored her granddaughters and loved to be able to take care of lil ones once again and boy are they adorable- such a great testimony she’d say to good parents. SO proud she was of seeing on a regular basis her daughter Shelby in action, so proud.
And now the excitement of her son Sean’s engagement to this lovely young woman, ahh the planning, the anticipation.
Sue had a zest for life for sure but her devotion was to her husband, her children, her mother, her grandchildren, her relatives, her friends, her Church and leading all she did through her deep faith.
Sue we will so miss you but you have left each and every one of us with a nugget of joy … knowing you♥️
I hear you singing .. Sue.
