Dear Lonnie and family,
Red’s involvement in Penn State New Kensington had waned by the time I got to Penn State New Kensington, but his name and legend lived on well after his time here.  He is known to have been one of those individuals who was bigger than life and dedicated both to our campus and the area.  I had the great fortune to interact with him several times.  I particularly enjoyed watching him and Chuck Booth get together and swap stories about their service in the military.  He also was present in my life in strange ways.  His punching bag in his old house still hung during the days we played poker there and would remind people of stories about him.  His character and leadership were frequently raised by those advisory board members who knew him.  In all of these accounts he was referred to with the utmost respect and affection.  He clearly was a born leader and loved.  I also found that he and I have a common bond in that we both went to American University and studied International Relations. I’m honored to have met him, grateful for his service to his country, and thankful for his time leading the Advisory Board in building PSNK.  What a life.  What a man.  I know that he will be missed by his family and friends.  I hope you all know that he is missed here as well.   On behalf of the Penn State New Kensington campus my sincere condolences.
