Sylvia Y. Huff

January 27, 2024

Our dearest and sweetest mother and friend, Sylvia Yvonne Huff, 87, entered the gates of Heaven’s Glory on January 27, 2024.

Sylvia was the beloved daughter of Alice and John Dawber of Lititz, PA. She grew up in a family of eleven brothers and sisters which included Anna, Flora, Cynthia, Rosie Gladys, Dave, John (Skeeter), Clarence, Paul and Harold. They shared many adventures together growing up, such as going to the old Lititz Movie Theater and many visits to Regnis’s Candy Company for some clear toy candy. Her affinity for sweets continued throughout her lifetime, in moderation, of course.

Sylvia met and married the love of her life, Frank W. Huff from Hawley, PA, and together, they raised five children, Charmaine, wife of Ronald Lentz, Jean, wife of Andrew Baker, Jane (Nina), wife of Daniel Kreider, a son, Frank, and a son, Doug, husband of Karen. Together, they have twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren, with whom they have enjoyed numerous family picnics and celebrations with.

Several of Sylvia’s earlier jobs included working at the old Shoe Factory, Salad House and Hubbard Farms. Later in life, she went on to join her husband in Frank W. Huff Plumbing & Heating Company and F&S Brokers, Inc.

Sylvia possessed creative artistic talents, and greatly enjoyed painting and ceramics. She would always inquire as to what a family member would like her to make for them. She has made many dishes, serving sets, lamps and of course those nostalgic, vintage lighted ceramic Christmas Trees.

She had a love of country and gospel music. Two of her favorites were The Booth Brothers and The Gaithers, to which she still was tapping her hands to, in her last days.

Sylvia also had a passion and love of dogs. Her faithful Collie, Karter, kept a close watch over her and she enjoyed his company immensely. He will sorely be missed.

Sylvia enjoyed watching the wildlife in her backyard, whether birds and squirrels at the feeder, or deer eating in the field behind her house, her face would light up at the sight of them. Many times, she would go along on car rides to the deer farm and enjoy watching the deer from the car window.

Sylvia and her husband, Frank, attended Assembly of God Churches throughout their lives. In more recent years, they would gather around the kitchen table every night, precisely at 7PM, to read scripture with her brother and sister as well.

Sylvia had always wanted to remain in her home and age in a place with the love and support of many helping hands, which she was able to do up until these past few weeks. She would often comment about how she appreciated the caregivers who so faithfully took part in her care. She enjoyed their stories, conversations, puppy visits, games of SORRY and the warmth and love they showered her with on a daily basis.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. We have loved her dearly and she will be greatly missed.

My deepest sympathy over the loss of your Mom, who I knew as Aunt Syl.  I have very pleasant memories of staying overnight with cousins ( especially Char and Jeanie as I never had sisters.  I remember the pumpkin bread Aunt Syl made in one pound coffee cans (delicious)!  I went along to church with the family and attended summer picnics.  Aunt Syl was always sweet and kind to me.  May all the memories of the love of family comfort you at this difficult time.  Love – Jackie Stahl-Weaver.
