Donald Brubaker, 87

October 12, 2022

Donald Brubaker, 87, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lancaster, PA he was the son of the late Agnes (McKelvey) and Wallace Brubaker. He was the pampered husband of Mary Anne (Rottmund). October 6th marked their 66th wedding anniversary and this amazing couple was celebrated at their home by 57 of their family and friends.

Don was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. His wish to manage a company was fulfilled when he became President of D M Stoltzfus & Son Inc. where he worked for 34 years.

His love for family vacations included yearly trips to Dewey Beach. Upon retirement annual travel to The DIVI in Aruba was his new found love. Don and Mary Anne treated their kids, significant others plus a few extras and it was here they created many unforgettable memories for 14 years: Alhambra, pub crawls, karaoke, dirty bananas, brick oven pizzas, white sand, blue water, and his Aruba family. Some of Don’s other interests included playing cards, bowling, softball, Penn State, Y&R, back scratches, and making sure the grandkids finished their sodas.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Dennis (Teri) of Lancaster, Donna Arment (Rob) of Landisville, Diane Fallan (Pat) of Columbia, Deb Frey (Todd) of Mt. Joy, Dan (Michelle) of Lancaster, Darlene Habecker (Jere) of Moncks Corner, SC, Denise Etnoyer (Eric) of Newmanstown, and David (Andrew Garner) of Lancaster; his brother Bob of Lancaster, sisters in law Joyce and Grace of Lancaster; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings Adam Freund, Helen Salzman, Mal, Dick, Jim, and Earl.

Don charmed every person that he met…. he was Dad/Grandpa to so many!! He was a great man adored by all and he will be dearly missed.

Family and friends are welcome to a visitation from 6-8PM on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at The Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. So sorry to hear this so late, much condolences to the family.  I am glad we visited Don and Mary Anne a few years back and shared family stories. May Don rest in the arms of our Lord.

Aunt Mary Anne and gigantic family-
i’m very sorry uncle Don passed. thrilled you had a big party for him days before, what timing, such a gift! a gentleman always knows when to leave, and he was that.
i remember the tons of fun family cookouts, shooting hoops in your driveway, and the day i figured out it was  uncle Don dressing up as santa clause all those years. i may have been 15, or so. perhaps in college. i didn’t want to know! he was the best santa.  he and Mary Anne have been wonderful friends to my parents, Kae and Ted Grumbein, for decades. Don and my Dad have been buddies since elementary school. so many stories; in all those years, not one disagreement.
that’s almost impossible to find.
Love to all of you, and please give my dad a hug when you see him. Tell him stories of the good old days, for there are so many. Hold each other up! a larger than life loss. and i doubt he’s resting-he’s mingling and eyeing up who needs help with what. Heaven’s gain.
parden the typos, i’m typing through tears.

When Don and I were teenage members of the YMCA leader’s group on Saturdays mornings, after our gym work we would return home and then later in the afternoon take in a movie at one of the theaters on North Queen Street and follow that up with an ice cream sunday at the store on West Orange Street.  We offer our sympathy to Don’s family and pray that he Rest In Peace.

What a nice family, what a nice man. I was lucky to play softball under his direction. If it weren’t for Don I would never have gotten involved in Senior modified. My condolences to the whole family. Jeffrey Glassmyer.

Denny
I wish you and your family peace during this difficult time. No matter how old you are it is difficult to loose a parent. I remember your dad when he would come to our basketball games at St Joe. All the best.

I cherish those visits made to your home with my dear friend Donna in our high school, college, and young adult years. Your dad and mom’s love of family and fun was indeed extended to others. Very few dinner tables offered as much entertainment value as my own big family’s; yours was an exception…. and there was Don teaching everyone how to enjoy life and laughter! Deepest condolences to all of you as you remember a most unforgettable man.
