Phillip E. Mitchell, 73

August 13, 1949 - October 01, 2022

On Saturday, October 1, 2022, Phillip Eugene Mitchell, loving husband, and father of 5 children, passed away at the age of 73 due to medical complications as a result of West Nile Virus. Phil was born August 13th, 1949, in Virginia to George Sr and Lucille Mitchell. He married Cindy (Messner) Anderson in 1969 and had two sons, Christopher, father of Elizabeth Mitchell; and Scott, husband of Sarah (Giuliano) Mitchell, father of Jack and Nolan Mitchell. Phil married his second wife Joni Ann Shank in 1982 with whom they would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this October. They had three children, Zachary Tyler, husband of Christina (Ram) Mitchell, father of Emma, Maddox, Mason and Miles Mitchell; Lucas Wade, husband of Paige (Minka) Mitchell, father of Lewis and Logan Mitchell; and Hannah Leigh Mitchell, partner of Frank Eichner. Phil spent his career in real estate and sales.

Phil’s greatest passion was his family. He enjoyed going to all his kids’ sporting events and dance recitals, family trips to the cabin and late nights laughing uncontrollably while playing games and telling stories. He spent much of the last 17 years, as “Poppy”, playing with his grandkids, attending their sporting events, taking them to parks and on long walks all over Lititz. Phil also loved caring for and walking his dog, Bessie. Phil was an avid runner and cyclist, completing many marathons and road races including qualifying and completing the Boston Marathon in his 50s. Up until his hospitalization, he was still frequently riding his bike from Lititz to Ephrata and back on the rail trail. He will be remembered by his family as a man who acted selflessly, always willing to put others needs ahead of his, found contentment in all he had and generally loved life.

Phil was preceded in death by his father George Sr., mother Lucille, brother Dale and son Christopher. He is survived by his wife Joni; children Scott, Zach, Luke and Hannah; grandchildren Elizabeth, Jack, Nolan, Emma, Maddox, Lewis, Mason, Miles, and Logan; his siblings Everett, George, Linda, and Billy, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 10, 2022, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Guests are welcome to a greeting hour from 10 – 11 AM.

Condolences to the Family

October 12, 2022

I was so sorry to hear about Phil’s passing. I coached his boys in wrestling many years back, and I remember how supportive and encouraging he was. He was agreat guy to work with. I am sure he was a loving, wonderful grandfather as well. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to the whole family.
