I was also very sad to recently hear about Joe’s passing. He was one of the first people I ever met at ESU during the summer orientation and our friendship followed us through 4 super years of football and lot’s of reps in the weight room. Although we lost touch over the years his positive attitude and hard work was very inspiring to me and I feel very honored to have had his friendship during those special years. He was a great friend, teammate and leader.

I just read of Joe’s passing in our ESU Alumni publication. I offer my sympathy to Joe’s family, relatives, and friends.  I was fortunate to be one of Joe’s teammate on the 1982 ESU football team that won the conference championship.  It was a special season and a special group of players and coaches.  Joe was a fantastic teammate – always so positive and energetic.  He had a golden attitude that was infectious and inspiring.  May you find comfort in the many fond memories he provided.   Andy Baranek

I was shocked to learn of Joe’s passing. We worked closely for five years and had many conversations, both personal and professional. He always found a way to make things look brighter. He had that ‘can do’ Marine mentality and tried to instill it in me. But with me being an Air Force Vet, I would always say “that’s the difference between a Marine and an Airman. The Marine just does it but the Airman asks why are we doing it.”  He was a pleasure to work with and I knew that he always had my back. I will certainly miss him.

Joe and I grew-up in the Tresckow/McAdoo/Kelayres Area. There were so many people in the area back- in – the – day. We would meet on basketball courts, CYO and wherever. Pete hung-out wit us, too.  Joe always had a smile and made me laugh.  Everyone loved him. I am sad.
More importantly, I am so sad reading he was in Lancaster. it breaks my heart more. I live in East Petersburg. We could have connected.  The memories live on. Miss you all these years, Joe. Rest my friend.

My sincere condolences to Joe’s family and friends.  I knew him in high school and we played football together at West Hazleton High School.  I’ll never forget Joe running off tackle for the first down on a fake punt at the end of the Hazleton game that allowed us to keep the ball and run out the clock to beat our rival Hazleton in the Thanksgiving game. That smile of his was bigger than normal that day.  Go with God, Joe.

From the moment I started working for Rhoads, Joe welcomed me in and did anything he could to help me learn and grow. Joe was one of those wonderful people who could see past his own personal wants and interests and instead see what was best for all, and still do it with a smile on his face. There is such a big hole in our heart. It just hurts so much. As parents,we could not have had a kinder or better person to be with our daughter, Colleen. He put a “big smile” on her face & a song in her heart.
Oh Colleen, Mom & Dad wished we could take this grief & pain away that you are feeling. We are so thankful that all our family was blessed by having Joe be a part of our family.
Colleen, you are such a “better person having been with Joe.”
Thanks to God for bringing him into our lives!
Love, Mom & Dad
