Marlin L. Stoltzfus, 57
September 02, 2019
Marlin L. Stoltzfus, 57, of Marietta, returned to his heavenly home on Monday, September 2, 2019 after a valiant battle with cancer. His unwavering faith in God and his devotion to his family supported him in his fight and ultimately gave him peace.
He was the husband of Michele E. Kline Stoltzfus, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage this past July 18th. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of Elmer and Rebecca Blank Stoltzfus of Gordonville.
Marlin was self-employed as a drywaller finisher for 30 years and for the past few years, was a manager at Shady Maple Smorgasbord. He was featured on an episode of Extreme Home Makeover showcasing his drywalling talents.
He was a very active member of The Outpouring Church in Lancaster, where he was involved with planning and offered counseling. This devotion to ministry was an example of the great compassion and servant heart he had towards others and his love for God. His faith was of great importance in his life, he loved The Lord with all of his heart. He loved distance running but especially enjoyed running to support a cause that helped others. He was still running 5ks to help others even while enduring his own chemo sessions for stage 3 cancer, and placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in his age class. Even in his last hours, he wanted to donate his retinas to two blind people. It was always about someone else, never himself.
Marlin was caring, humble, and protective of those he loved. He loved his family and especially enjoyed playing with is grandchildren, where he showed his joy for life and his spirit.
Marlin was a 1979 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School where he was a wrestler and runner.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his 4 children: Josiah married to Nicole of Milford, OH, Angelica married to Andrew Glass of Batavia, OH, Shay married to Troy Sauger of Marietta, PA and Joel of Felton, PA; his 5 grandchildren Landon, Riley, Kaylin, Ivy, and Stella; and his siblings: Brenda married to Ken Diller of Gordonville, Merv married to Jan Stoltzfus of Smoketown, Larry married to Cheryl Stoltzfus of Lancaster and his, twin, Marilyn married to Dennis White of Lancaster.

I’m so very sorry for the passing of Marlin. Sending love and hugs to your families way. 🙁
We were honored to have Marlin and Michele pray for my husband Gerry last Oct. who has effects from a stroke. My daughter recorded it for us to continue to listen to.

I’m sorry to hear of Marlin’s passing. I knew Marlin many years ago from being in youth group at Ridgeview. I was especially moved by his testimony before the congregation when he and his girlfriend had been living together but became born-again and convicted to become celibate and marry. His courage, humility and honesty is uncommon these days! My sincere condolences to the family.

I immediately heard the word Storm trooper. I knew it was describing who Marlin was. Our hearts cry out for your family as you walk through this difficult season of change. We thank you both Michelle and Marlin for how you both impacted and poured into our family back at Word Fellowship for many years . We stand knowing that God’s love , power, and strenght are carrying you all. Minute by minute, day by day , and one step at a time. The tapestry in your garments of all the years that Marlin and you shared here in earth will keep your heart strong as new tapestry is added to walk this next journey. In the process dream big, visit the heavenlies often, and pour out your love in praise. Your tears will turn to memories of laughter, you’ll climb mountains yet explored, and go places yet unknown. Your book of life seems uncertain but God has it all figured and and loves you so much Michelle. Great and Glories things with the strenght of steel that formed strong from all the years that Marlin and you walked strong together. We stand confident for we know that there is no final separation as we are eternal children with our home as heaven forever with our king. Until that day comes we rejoice with our king. Love and prayers to all.

Marlin was a one-of-a-kind spirit. I knew him best as a young adult in the late ’70’s. His love of life and devotion to friends and family was surpassed only by his love and devotion to his Lord. Remember the many good times. That’s how I’ll remember him… Ray Eckert
