Jane Elizabeth Brandt, 90
October 20, 2018
Jane Elizabeth Brandt, 90, passed on to Heaven as the brilliant sun rose, Saturday morning October 20th, 2018. It was a joyous occasion as she was welcomed with open arms by God and her husband of 49 years, Robert A. Brandt Sr. who preceded her on that journey in July of 1999.
Jane was born December 31st, 1927 in downtown Lebanon, Pennsylvania as the first child of four to Myles Robert and Kathryn (Landis) Yorty. She graduated from Lebanon High.
Jane attended and graduated from, The Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia, PA in February of 1948. She was a registered nurse and was employed by Dr. George Moeshlin, MD, a general practitioner in Lebanon, PA.
Jane and Robert were married in June of 1950. They had two children, Robert A. Brandt Jr. in 1952 and Patricia Jane Smith in 1955. Jane and Robert moved to Lancaster in 1955.
Jane’s primary focus was her two children. She graduated them both from college. She embedded habits that have guided them to successful careers. She taught them values that have oriented them in community service. She loved them right into loving families of their own. She never quit, she willed it to happen.
After focusing on molding her kids, in 1969, she accepted the position of Gift Shop Manager at the Show Case of Fashion, a high-end ladies fashion boutique in Lancaster. She worked there until she retired in 2014.
Jane was the secretary of the Lancaster Horse Show during the sixties which was an annual event held at the Lancaster Riding Club. She was a member of the Lancaster Riding Club, The Conestoga Country Club and The Hamilton Club. Jane was a 63 year member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and vacation bible school.
Jane lived the last 19 years of her life at 1135 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, as she had since 1955, without her husband. She was independent right up to the last 12 weeks. She moved to Luther Acres in Lititz, PA for the final stanza.
Her family expresses appreciation for the dedicated individuals from Luther Care, Hospice & Community Care, Home Instead and Your Neighborhood Connection who shared in the last chapter of this great story.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert A. Brandt Sr., her sister Ruth Mae Martin, her brother Myles Robert Yorty, Jr., her nephew David Eric Johnson and her grandson Henry Christian Brandt.
Jane is survived by her children, Robert A. Brandt, Jr., husband of Barrett, of Lancaster, Patricia Jane Smith, wife of Stuart Shepard Smith, of Lancaster, grandchildren, Robert A. Patty and Bob,
From the day I started kindergarten to baking Christmas cookies in your kitchen until our last visits at Patty’s house when we used to reminisce about fun times long ago; i.e., the horseshows, the sleepovers, the “drive-in” movies, summers at the beach in Stone Harbor, NJ……too many great memories. Your mom was always like a 2nd mom to me. She will be missed.

May your Mother rest in peace. You were blessed to be so well nurtured. I hope fond memories sustain you when you miss her most. Sincerely, Marty Wedge-Blake

Patty and Bob, I enjoyed knowing your Mother since the early 70’s. In fact, I saw her while food shopping not all that long ago. She always seemed to be cheerfull and happy. My deepest sympathy to you entire family. Fred

My sincere sympathy to your family. I remember your Dad walking their little dog and would tease him about his “killer dog”. After your Dad’s passing I would often caht with your Mother when she would walk the dog.
