I just read in Villanova magazine that Jere passed away. I played football with Jere at Villanova. Overall he was the most physically talented player in the class of 74. During his 4 years he played 4 different positions; wide receiver, safety, linebacker, and running back. He was good at all those positions and never complained about the yearly change in position. He was just always up to the challenge. I lost touch with Jere after my junior year when I mainly focused on academics and getting into medical school. It doesn’t surprise me that he was so successful in his post-football life. We had a really good group of student athletes in those years. Six of us became physicians. Four became lawyers. Four played in the NFL. Many became successful businessmen and community leaders. I am sorry to hear that Jere died so soon after his retirement but he clearly made an impact on the lives of many others.

The news took this long to travel all the way up to Boston…I was fortunate to have played on the Villanova Football Team the same time as Jere…He was a great person and unbelievable athlete….Everyone he met became his friend, not only football players…I remember during the winter months we all played on different intramural basketball teams…when our teams played each other, Jere was the best player on the court….he was great…didn’t matter which team won….we always went out for a pizza and a pitcher…He was so much fun…I read the news in the Villanovan today….I am so sad for his family…he was always so upbeat in everything he did…I am so glad that he was my friend….our paths after graduation went different directions…..I will never forget the times I shared with Jere at Villanova…Perfect representative of the good student athletes that attend the University…Rest in Peace

Jere was instrumental in the launch of the BoB Conference which will take place in just a few weeks. As I was working on finalizing this year’s event I was reminded of Jere’s mentorship and assistance. He was very generous with his time. In case family and friends did not see this article from CRN, I am sharing it with you to see the amazing impact he had on the tech industry along with the respect his peers and colleagues had for Jere. https://www.crn.com/news/channel-programs/300106731/former-dimension-data-ceo-jere-brown-passes-away-leaving-legacy-of-respect-for-employees-customers.htm

Although I did not know Jere personally, I grew up with his younger brother, Jim Brown and have remained close frineds with Jim today. My sister Holly graduated with Jere at Conestoga Valley High School in 1970. Sometime during the late 70’s/early 80’s, Jere would call on my my dad (the late Jack B. Stambaugh) who was a purchasing manager for Sperry/New Holland at the time. Dad would often refer to Jere as a “great salesman”. My deepest condolences to the entire Brown family.

One quick story. We were Skiing in Vermont about 35 years ago. We had a great day on the slopes of Killington. One night we headed out for a few beers. Well around midnight most of the ski bums went back to the Lodge. Not Jere and me. We decided we were still having fun. So we had a few more adult beverages then decided to head back to the lodge. (No cell phones at that time.) So we started to hich hike DOWN the Mountain but it turned out the place we were staying was UP the Mountain. Walt Rowen eventually came out to find us and save us. He succeeded thank goodness. But what I really want to say is ” I never worried about being on a mountain at 1AM in mid January because I was with my friend Jere”. I knew everything would be just fine because I was with my friend J.A.B. RIP Friend.

Dear Kim and Brown Family,
Life is not always fair. I am so, so sad to hear of Jere’s passing. While years have passed since we “hung out” as couples, there are so many great memories of our times with you and Jere. You were so kind to always bring baby gifts as our family grew, and Jere was a wonderful friend to Jim.
When Chad died, I appreciated when friends shared fond memories of their times with him. One fun memory of Jere was at our respective weddings – watching the great CV buddies dance and Jim always ripping the crotch out of his tux pants on the dance floor. Another – do you remember when we stayed at the hotel in WV on the way to the Bender wedding?
Having lost my dear Chad suddenly and at a young age, I can relate to the shock and agony of your loss. If I can be of any help or if you need to chat, please reach out to me. Please know you and the family are in my heart and prayers.
From the heart,
Jerri Helsel Johnson

Dear Kim and Brown family – Thinking of you all on this most difficult of days. Sending prayers and healing thoughts to you as you lay Jere to rest. Jere and I were on the executive team together at Dimension Data. I will always remember him fondly as perpetually positive, team focused, and committed to fun. Dear Kim, Matt, Tyler and family,
Although we have never met, I feel like I have witnessed so many of your precious family moments because Jere was so good at documenting and posting those moments on Facebook. He was so obviously proudly in love with all of you. We, and all of our ‘74 friends at Villanova, were excited that FB allowed us to reconnect and share our life experiences even though we were distant geographically. We all enjoyed reconnecting in person at our 40th reunion. We are all devastated by his passing and keep you, his family, in our prayers. 🙏
With deepest sympathy,
Mary Walsh Gerngross

Kim, I’m very saddened to hear of Jere’s passing. Far too young. If not for Jere, I would not have my career today. He mentored me as a young man at Inacom and gave me the inspiration and motivation to become successful. He was a great leader and role model, but also a friend who always made me and others laugh. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Kim and the Brown family
I was a former Villanova player with Jere and on behalf of all of our Team and his Villanova Wildcat family we want to send our deepest sympathy to all of you. I am so glad many of us saw Jere at our last reunion and that he joined us for dinner that Sat night. We had a great time sharing fond memories of our college days together. I was also fortunate to play for the Phila. Bell of the WFL and I know how proud Jere was playing in that league.
God bless Jere and all of you. May you be strong during this very difficult time in life and we all wish we could be there with you. Take care and if you need anything please let me know.

Dearest Kim, Matt and Tyler,
We are shocked and deeply saddened by the death of our dear neighbor, Jere. He was a great, kind neighbor with a deep sense of family. My family had the opportunity of seeing that everyday for 34 years. I loved seeing him play basketball in the driveway with Matt and Tyler and then, thirty four years, later playing with Miles, Ella and Judson. He left a tremendous legacy of leadership, enthusiasm, philanthropy and vision in the business world. We were privileged to witness his greatest achievement: as a husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and dear friend. We will miss him terribly and help keep his memory alive.
Love and prayers, Kathy Ference and family

Kim and family,
Shocked and saddened to hear of Jere’s sudden passing. I am a CV guy/former athlete, like he was. He was a great guy that I’ve known since my HS days (class of ’75). Jere always came back and gave back to CV. He will be sorely missed by sooo many, especially all of you.
I lost my wife to breast cancer just a few weeks ago, so I really do know what you are going through. I can’t be at the service to celebrate Jere’s well lived, but far too short, life as I will be out of town. I certainly hope and pray that your many great memories and the support of family & friends bring you some comfort and peace at this tough time, as it has for me.
All the best, Jeff Geyer
